@Steven- GTA games have almost no female characters that aren't whores or potential "dates" for your main character. The only reasonable one I could find in GTA5 is a very minor character who has almost no screen time and has no development besides just being a driver on a mission.
It's actually kinda odd because Rockstar had good female characters in Red Dead Redemption so it's not like the concept is foreign to them. Apparently they think the GTA fans can't deal with real depictions of women. Well whores are real but you know what I mean.

We're talking about censorship on terms of not selling it right? Yeah I'd say Target and Kmart have the right to not sell whatever they please.
My mistake. I read your post as you found the concept of art being sold to a mass market disagreeable, not the censoring of.
@DB: Wal~Mart refusing to sell uncensored CDs was a large controversy back in the late 90's early 2000's. No one cares anymore because no one buys CDs anymore.

@Steven- Yeah violence against men happens more in GTA but that's because the major/minor characters are like 99% guys. If you count the random citizens then who knows what the number would be.
They should ban the bible it's a horrible book.
Petitions are pretty laughable usually but if Target Australia believes that a majority of the people signing are potential customers then it might work. Or they might see how hypocritical the ban is, but I doubt that.

Red Dead Redemption was made by Rockstar San Fransisco, GTA 5 was made by Rockstar North in the UK thats the main difference

Actually, it was a petition from the same site that got them to change in the first place. Come to find out, a lot of the petitions votes (I've heared reports to up to 60%) were opposed to the change and were indicating it in the comments. Target did not read the comments and took the number as total supporters. I don't know why people thought they should fight the petition by signing it but they did.

Okay, so they are basically saying "we want the game off the shelf because of what the game allows the player to do" not "we want the game off the shelves because of what the game requires the player to do"
I was reading about a scene where you actually torture a crying man begging for his life by water boarding and stuff... Witch the game requires you to do.
@Steven- I think the ban is stupid because it's so focused on the treatment of women, so we do kinda agree on this. It looks really hypocritical when the game is specifically designed to be about committing crimes, it's even named after one. Before the switch to 3D I remember one of the GTAs had you blowing up a police station for a mission so this is not a recent thing either.
Like I said though I think this could be a good thing in the bigger picture because it makes people talk about these issues, even if the talk isn't very productive.

Both of my girls loved Bloodrayne and I never heard a single complaint about how she harmed/ humiliated/ degraded the male characters in those games.

If that is was the writer and director want, then yes. If it is because of pressure from SJW's then no.
This was not self proclaimed SJW's mind you, this was good old Neogaf, who are as whole, have strong SJW/anti-GG tendencies. I'd likely never buy the game myself, but holy crap that's such a stupid thing for them to do, and even more so retarded for Harada to actually listen to them.
