Agreed, there should not be any sort of opinion based record, they should all be cut and dry, 100% verifiable, full stop.

Of course this would cause 10 times the outrage this list had but, my list would look something like this.

No particular order, and some of them I've barely played/don't even like, but it's not based on trying to piss of the fewest amount of people.

Me and my dad had this convo the other day, What do yall think? Do you think that the console era is slowly dying? Things are just getting more complicating and almost none, but very few significant changes can be found on these Next Gen consoles.

Yup I think it's on the decline. When I look at the new consoles I see nothing tempting besides a handful of pretty games that don't seem to have much substance. If I want those kind of games I can already find them on PC. On top of that the prices are just going up. One of these next gen consoles plus a couple games and second controller is pretty close to the price of a decent PC. A PC that isn't full of restrictions and limitations.

My biggest gripe about consoles is that last part about being restricted. If your console breaks and you can fix it on your own you're penalized by having it void your warranty. So if it's a simple fix and you do it to save yourself weeks of waiting for the company to fix it you're screwed if something comes up that you cannot fix. If you wanted to improve your console somehow you'd also void it and you'd be banned from their online service. I don't see how people can still be ok with that when the line between console and PC is so blurred. If the console industry is gonna survive for a while it's probably gonna be because one bold company drops all those restrictions and basically makes a cheap and easy to use gaming PC disguised as a console.

I almost see it kinda like going to theatre vs. straight to dvd. The way it is now is that there is no mid ground on consoles any more, it is all massive 3d aaa titles. So it's fewer and fewer games, but more consistently high production values. We will never see another console with thousands of games for it. Anything not aaa has better suited venues for it, steam, mobile, e shop etc.

I don't see it as them dying per say, just changing into a different beast.

Consoles have moved too much towards being entertainment centers instead of just playing games. There are cheaper alternatives that do all that now, and they are not helping themselves.

Having to pay to play online isn't helping them either. You can get the same games on PC(usually at much much deeper discounts if you wait) and then you don't have to pay to play most of them online(obviously subscription based games don't count)

So wait...Target was the only store to take the game off stock? Are they stupid? That's bad for them. Shows how easily they cave in. It's rated 18+ for a reason, isn't it? That's like asking your customers to go spend money on a rival company.

Surprised they didn't just get it banned in the entire country through the government.

If they were smart they'd reverse the descion and apologize immediately. This goes beyond a simple game, there are people who will do all their shopping elsewhere out of spite.

This is a typical action for Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. These governments/rating boards from respective countries find this sort of game harmful to the mental health of their people, or something. Why chalk it up to Social Justice Warriors?

I really don't see the issue. They said they got customer feedback, both good and bad, but the bad was the majority so they pulled it. If they feel like a majority of their customers are unhappy and might not return they kinda have to listen to them. It'd be silly for them to take some stand about it, especially when the game is basically just a violent crime simulator with a well earned reputation for portraying women poorly. I like GTA but let's be real about what it actually is. It's amazing they allowed it to be sold in the first place.

Also I bet the people at Rockstar are giddy about the free advertising and renewed support for their game. The only people really effected are australian gamers who don't already find other ways to get M rated games.

After browsing the Reddit link I feel I should mention that Target US is not affiliated with Target Australia. From what I've seen Target in the US does enforce the ratings. They even card you when you buy canned air.

Did you consider that they might be onto something? Have you even played GTA for any length of time? I'm not saying ban everything that offends someone but it might be good to look at the terrible way women are portrayed in most video games. Stories like this provoke discussion and could lead to a change, I think that's the point you and your buddies are missing.

Same argument can be made for child porn. There is a line. At some point censorship trumps creativity.

Child porn harms the actors. That reason alone is why it is banned.

But what if the actors were CGI, no harm to actual children. Would it be ok then?

Some people say it should still be banned because it increases real life acts of pedofilia. Or simply because it is disgusting.
Some people say allow it. It is art, no one is hurt and it might be a safe outlet for pedofiles and prevent real life acts of pedofilia.

Same arguments can be made for GTA. No one is hurt but it either perpetuates the idea that being a dick to women and a general thug in all aspects is cool, or it provides a safe outlet for people to get that out of their system before entering the real world.

Yes, art. Video games are art.

Graphical design is an art. Musical composition is an art. Story telling is an art. Even coding, in it's own way, is an art I would imagine.

Art is going above and beyond the practical. Art is defined by the artist.

It is not a requirement that you agree with or even wish to tolerate the subject matter for something to be art.

Can Someone who actually played the answer me this?

What exactly does this game have that constitutes the violence against women outrage? Does the game not feature violence against men equally? I'm just wondering what specifically happens that justifies adding "against women" rather than just "violence".
