Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year
A big and sincere 'hats off' to wolf, TiF, barra, maxh and josephjo for organising this smashing tournament. Bravo all!
I think everyone who participated would echo that. My own highlights were discovering Do! Run Run which I've enjoyed tremendously, and chatting with a bunch of innarestin' new folks.
I only managed a few scores on the final board, but that's what comes with being part of team full of absolute gaming monsters
Really hope we have another edition next year, and well done everyone for taking part!!!

+1 to that from myself and all the other players from Aussie Arcade who aren't members here.
One of these tournaments a year is not enough. Great work guys, and congrats to DKF on winning.

Yes, Tif. I wanted to do more than 130k, but level 6 of EA was hell. I´ve reached level 7 only 3 times in all my attempts...

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year
Hi.
Congratulations to DKF the team winner !
Congratulations to TIF the individual winner !
I appreciated this tourney and i was happy to fix my own goals according to the score submitted by other players.
Even if there were some minor troubles, i decided to put a 5/5 note for the idea and the format of this tournament. This is the first time i participate in a tournament where no beat'em all or fighting game are selected and i'm happy of this ^^
In my mind, the points to cleared in the next session are :
1/ Limit the number of games comparing to the delay of the tournament (1 month and 24 games are too much). In comparison, in 2006, during the italy vs france challenge, we had 10 games on 2 months (and 10 players) and the level were really high because we had time to learn the 5 games the 2 teams have chosen. In IGBY tournament there are really high skill from the players who knows the games before but i think the other one had no chance to raise their level until the best gamers but there are suprises from everyone here.
2/ Verify before the beginning if the games chosen could be leachable, marathoning or if there is problem known.
3/ Use the same version of emulator (based on the RU version) to avoid problems of dipswitches which can change between versions (i think particularily in bombjack where some players have submitted early scores in july with maybe incorrect settings - if you used mame 0.106 default settings, they are easier than RU (0.135) and later versions)
4/ Let participate only known users of each site.
5/ Do a large diffusion to invite the maximum of site like spanish players (retrovicio), italian players (arcade-extreme), french players like me (arcadehits.net) and the reference in this domain Marp. If twingalaxies revive, why not propose to the forum members to participate. Too, shmup.com is a site specialised but members could be interested in the participation because they know mame.
Personnal statistics :
For this contest, on 23 games i submitted scores on 19 games and 17 enterred in the 5th best of the site.
I've beaten 11 of my personnal best, that's the reason i think a tourney is bringing us the energy to elevate our skill.
A little note. I didn't want to play some of games but i forced me when i saw i could do a not too bad score for the team and finally i was proud to play and raise my skill.
The last word : Great IGBY, Great Coordinators and Great Players make this tourney a very pleasant moment.
Thank you for all !

Excellent. Looking forward to it. Here's an old thread (sorry I know it's CAGDC which is sort of poisonous) about a 149k I did some years back, there might be some stuff in there that you find interesting about score at the end of different buildings, etc. Glad to see others enjoying EA, I think it is an amazing classic arcade game. There are lots of different ways to go about playing it and it's the one game I never get tired of going back to. Cheers.

Wow. You´re awesome!! I don´t knew the WR is yours. For me, was a honour to play EA with you.
I thought this was the WR in EA MAME Action Replay Page
There´s a difference between to do a high score in MAME and in original arcade machine? It´s just a question because I do not understand.
I congratulate you for your WR, Steve. I never reached level 8. Level 9 is only for masters. I´ll keep playing it because, like you, I love EA. I play it since 1988.

Nope, it's the same as far as I can tell, except the arcade machine PCB has a weird reset bug sometimes that gets triggered during certain jumping events. This always made me nervous (and why I killed off the 149k game with a few guys left in reserve) because you are prone to a reset at any point in the game (I've had it happen during games where I've passed 110k with no deaths, )
It seems to happen on all the different EA machines that I've played on (probably 5 or so, including the one I own).
In any event, my original goal was always to beat the 80's arcade score on an arcade machine, but I plan to get into the 175-200k range hopefully by the winter.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year
I know Mark Alpiger and some of the fellas over at CAGDC might be interested to participate.
I'm also eager for the next tournament when we at HighScore.Com got a better organized team. I'm all for two tournaments a year.

Re: Internet Gaming Bash of the Year
I totally forgot to say how awesome IGBY was. Loved it. Kudos to wolf et al. for putting it on. And thanks for letting us Chicago folk join at the last minute. I'm stoked for IGBY 2. Hopefully our team members won't go on honeymoons during the next tournament, and hopefully we'll have a more fitting team name.
