realism and superheroes

Because realism is now big in superhero movies, I wonder how life would be if superhumans actually exist. How would they use their abilites, and how would normal humans react both individually and as a society? Also, if you had superpowers, then what would you do with them?

If superpowers were real and given at random like in the comics then the world would most likely be dead or destroyed. Unless luck of the draw gave the right powers to the right people we'd be doomed. Think of how ignorant and selfish humanity is now. Now imagine that with god like powers.

I think X-Men had it right. We'd likely try to lock them up somewhere so they couldn't cause problems and/or try to cure them of their powers.

The ability to control time would be by far the most corruptible superpower.

The only power I'd take is the ability to perfectly imitate and control voice. I can't think of any other power that would provide you with a skill that you could use to profit from (legally) without drawing attention to yourself while simultaneously not being something that corrupts you easily.

I suppose that most superhumans wouldn't become evil supervillains because most people aren't evil, but many probably would use their powers for some selfish and immoral deeds. The government would probably react negatively unless the superhumans worked for them, but peoples' fear would vary. I would be wary of random persons who gain superpowers, but I wouldn't react with absurd prejudice. The population's reaction would depend on the superhumans' actions. Super-battles could cause much destruction, but if enough savers use their powers wisely, or at least non-offensively, then normal humans mostly wouldn't react very negatively.

If I could get a superpower, then I would do so, and would use it so that I help other people, but I wouldn't necessarily become a superhero because it would be expensive and take up a lot of time. It sounds selfish, but a career as a superhero wouldn't be feasible unless one had sufficient financial support. Of course a superhero could charge the government money for service, but I personally wouldn't chose that career path, although, if some power threatened peoples' safety greatly, and they needed a superhuman for safety, then I would usemy powers so that I defeat this threat, although I probably would need help from other supers.
