when donkey kong has sold over 50 million games
when zelda sold over 50 million games
when mario kart has sold over 80 million games

you kinda dont like to change things thats sell so much

nintendo has been the most creative company of all time . they changed things for ever since the 1980s . from zelda,star fox ,mario ,donkey kong ,samus and many others they made. there games do sell but its only the nintendo made one . from what they did with zelda orc of time ,too mario 64 and many other classic games .i dont think there is another game company that comes close to them interms of making original games . over the years .

i do think those can help guid the wii U to sucess. i think those games will sell consoles. i mean people been waiting for a zelda HD game for years .that will sell copys for sure . and mario ,pikmin,super smash bros ,and others will sell .

I don't think he's saying abandon all the classics in their line, but that they need to fully develop a new title and actual promote it. You'd draw in more fans that way.

This is a big problem for Nintendo. I always see people dismissing them because all they release is the same few characters from the NES - Snes era. If they're making new characters they aren't getting noticed by a large part of the gaming community. To that part of the community Nintendo is for kids or nostalgic people who can't move on. Like it or not that is real and it hurts Nintendos chances at getting new fans.

@Drunk -wario,pikmin,punchout,Fzero ,Animal crossing ,Brain age,Game and watch ,Wii series such as wii fit ,yoshi , and Luigi. those are some of other others i am talking about . Nintendo has been created over the years they just have not come out with a such a big character such as mario or zelda in long time . but they still do make ones . just not major ones . i like how you laugh before you look it up . to easy to poke fun i guss right

One big, big problem for USA is that those kinds of games don't sell. Fans will cry for releases but when the time comes they do not step up.

Nowadays these games are more likely to get put on the online eShop....only to run into that whole "no retail release - no buy" crowd.
I do agree they should come out with something new at times, but what else can they do at that point other than to put out what sells?

@SH- When was the last time a rail shooter did well outside of an arcade setting? Seems like the fault is with the devs on that one. Make games your customers will want instead of making games you want your customers to want.

Why does that matter?
People cried about wanting 'hardcore' gaming experiences on the Wii, and they got it from the studio that's best at delivering it. Bargain bin. Same for every other similar game.

Well that's a catch-22 isn't it?
People want new things and then don't buy them.
People complain about getting the same old COD/EA Sports stuff, but those games are best sellers EVERY year.
Same goes for those old Nintendo franchises, they are always the best sellers among the company's offerings.

After thinking about it actually I'm going to reject this statement outright.
There isn't always a benefit from staying behind the curve.

Nintendo convinced countless consumers they wanted a NES to play Mario, Zelda, etc in the 1980s when absolutely no market demand existed for it.

Similarly, Apple convinced the entire world that they needed an iPhone, when the market had been stagnated for years with low power phones, and nobody could have imagined phones doing more than being phones.

Same situation for Wii and motion controls.

Staying ahead of the market can be a good thing, if only consumers will respond.

i find that that is true .

pepsi did it with gatoraid and other such things. they became more then just soda company . that made coke have to do the same thing .

nintendo yes did it with motion controlls . why microsoft came up with kinect . and sony brought back there eye toy . that is what nintendo is doing . the blue ocean guide . a plan to become more then what your know for it . make a new market in already existing one . it works if done correctly . yeah i mean i want to see more original stuff by nintend sure i been a fan for years and some of you longer then me . am i a fan of nintendo new plan not 100 perercent . i mean the wii motion controlls i was not fan of cuzz i love to play with a controller like the nes or snes or n64 and game cube days . why i hated playing zelda or mario and the donkey country games for the wii . cuzz it was less fun .

why i was a fan of hearing about the controll pad for the wii u and not so much the controller with the screen i use that thing mostly for watching tv more then using it to play the games right now . i only use the wii u pad unless i am forced too . but yeah i been a huge nintendo fan all my life but that does not mean i dont own other systems like the 360 or ps3 cuzz i do . i bought alot of 3rd party games and stuff on that cuzz i love using a controller base not motion controllers . nintendo has found some sucess or huge sucess with the motion thing which is good but that does not mean i am a fan of it cuzz lets face it as players we love a controller not something you have to move around too lol.

@SH- It matters because there's very little demand for rail shooters. If they wanted to move units they should've made it FPS or TPS, because that's whats in demand.

Rail shooters are hardcore? I always thought of them as casual, like a game you see in a movie theater lobby.

The point about making games customers want is it's less risky. If you wanna produce a risky game, like a rail shooter, it'll probably end up in the bargain bin. Can't really blame customers for it, they just didn't want it, try again or go with something safer.

thats not all there fault though there game ends up in a bargain bin . why cuzz not every game company has the abilty to flash there game at award shows or all over tv . or on the big screen before movies . i mean games like halo or call of duty or mario and zelda and other big AAA titles that have companys with large junks of money can do that with little effort . but the games like that dont have that abilty so they can only show there game in not many places . so that is why most of those games end up in the bargin bin .

and games like fire emblem i think nintendo did not do much avertising for that and not alot of people knew about it plus it was limited releese i think for it as well .

Even with a billion dollar advertising budget a rail shooter wouldn't do well, because they aren't what people want right now.

I saw plenty of FE commercials and it had lots of word of mouth online. Did it bomb or something?

You could make the NA public buy a piece of poop in a ziplock bag with enough marketing.

No, the new FE sold very well, because it was supported with marketing. If it wasn't hyped up it probably would have moved 1/10 of what it did.

FE to date sold 900k, it's safe to say it will probably pass the million mark by the end of the year. Plus I think it sold a boatload digitally, due to the fact that something went wrong in the shipping and it was very hard to find on the shelf for the first couple of weeks, also I don't think that the 3DS bundle was tracked either. Those are amazing numbers for a strategy RPG.

Well then what the hell is the point about complaining about not getting new franchises then?
The word "New" implies something that has not been seen before.
FPS/TPS are available on the market by a truckload right now. Sticking Mario in a Call of Duty wouldn't change anything.
Both Conduit games on the Wii bombed hard. They were exactly what the market wanted right?

All I'm saying is that they missed the mark by going with a rail shooter. It'd be the same as if they made a point and click adventure game. It was their decision, they are to blame not the customers.

I don't have to go play it, it's a rail shooter. Do you need to try every point and click game to know they won't sell well because it's a niche genre?

I think the general point is that fans wanted this series (an on rails shooter) to come back. When it did, they didn't care to actually buy the game.

fans want something new from nintendo but they know they cant not stop giving us things we love like smash bros or mario, zelda , donkey knong ,kirby ,metroid ,star fox . they know alot of there audince still waites every year to see thoes titles . they always sell way more then any other titles that get put on a nintendo system .

people are more likely to buy a mario based game then the call of duty game that gets put on the wii U .
