Re: Twingalaxies down
We are not going to start hiding movies.
I wasn't asking the question specifically for RU. I meant for all similar sites, TG, MARP, CP, RU etc. If someone found a way to credit people for developing new strategies instead of just for setting high scores, would you then feel better about sharing your strategies and videos?
There are good points on both sides but I think it is best for everyone if we found a way to encourage everyone to share.

Of course KONG if I get the credit and spotlight I deserved it would not matter as much but since we have a BIAS anf corrupt system in most of gaming NO

As far as I know, it's only Fellowroot that cares, and he doesn't even play here, so it's really a non-issue.

Re: Twingalaxies down
Well, like for example in math if you come with a new idea you might have your name on a theorem, but I haven't really seen any techniques that were actually named after or credited to a certain player.
Who was the firsts person to figure out that you can gain extra points in Donkey Kong by jumping next to his feet?
Who were the original creators of the Pac-man patterns?
And so on...

The only reason why I'm locking all my inps is because I'm tried of people beating me. World records are a ton of work and it gets harder and harder to set them as the scores get higher and higher.
Also I actually DID decide to PLAY here, but let me explain. So I'm really good at Hal21 and have the wr for that game. I saw that the game was listed here too, so one day I decided to play it and set a high score and you know what? The game that you have here is NOT the same version of the game which Twin Galaxies has. So actually it doesn't make any sense to display my name here at RU for the wr when the two games aren't the same.
And even though I love the work that you do Kong with this site and CP an order for there to be a scoreboard which is 100% accurate you have to know these games inside and out. It also depends on how accurate you want your scoreboard to be as well. At least for me if scores are set on two different games then you can't put them in the same track.
Anyway........
BIG NEWS!
So I've been trying to find out if I made it into the Guinness book or not. I've been going on youtube to watch reviews of the book to see if I could potentially see my name in it, but had no luck.
Then today at school they had a book fair and so I was just looking around and saw the Guinness book and guess what? I MADE IT IN THE BOOK!!!!
SONIC 2 POINTS YES!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you understand that it's not really the world record then? If you have to prevent people from competing to keep your top score then it's false.

Space Invaders
* Shot Counting Trick : To get 300 every time you hit the mystery saucer. It is named the 'Furrer Trick' named after Eric Furrer who perfected it.
Congrats on making the Guiness book - kind of pot luck that out of the thousands of games they chose Sonic 2 (amongst others) though.

Wait a minute.
I don't know if what you said really makes any sense.
You said:
If you have the world record, but then you don't show it then you really don't have the world record.
Okay, so I can disprove that very easily.
Step 1. Go to Twingalaxies.com
Step 2. Look up one of my wr
Step 3. Understand that although there is no download of game play I still have the wr.
Done.

So let me get what you're saying straight. If you have a WR in a game that is only open to North America, how is it really a world record? If only 5 people ever played said game, for example. How is that a world record? WR tends to lose credibility when no one is competing for it.
Japan is vastly different in their tastes and i guarantee if they had same tastes as us they would probably be obliterating scores.
I dont know why TG is such a big deal. How many countries is it open to? and how many of those countries actually participate on TG? Assuming this actually has/had happened.
For all we know someone who doesn't care about WR has a higher score than anyone.
You can take a look at anything in this real life we all live in and you see copycats everywhere. Only the freakish can seperate themselves (sports) and for everything else, everyone else copies everyone else.
I kinda find this all too silly. But hey i guess im just a realist.

Re: Twingalaxies down
I cared about it at one point. I stressed out thought I was big crap. What did it get me? First place on ru leader board in 2008. Looking back was it worth it? Honestly no. I'd stress and just be on here submitting any score. It also made me look like a jackass too. I'd go in contests and try with others ad get overly stressed and make unfavorable remarks about competitors when it's supposed to be fun. Honesty I think before thinking of how to protect your wr appreciate what the games are themselves. Having to worry about wr is really not worth it especially when it's a game only a handful care about. I mean its not donkey kong. Heck to be honest I don't even like donkey kong. I am more of a donkey kong country guy.

It's about me leaving all of my inps open and then someone beats me and then LOCKS their inp over mine.

Re: Twingalaxies down
I think Steven's point is if the person that beat you had also left their INPs open that you would not have a problem continuing to leave your INPs open.
So your problem is not revealing your INPs but that some people do not which makes it unfair.

While I think that's correct for him you also have to understand, why should he leave his inputs open here when there are other scoreboards at which he can lock them?
There's no incentive to leave his inputs open and only drawbacks in doing so. It might be one thing if EVERY scoreboard made open inputs mandatory but they don't. Until that changes there's no reason why he should scratch his competitor's backs just so they can turn around and give him the finger.

You're not getting it. Your score is only the current high score. In order to be an actual world record it has to be unbeatable by everyone. Hiding your gameplay is working against that idea.
If you hide your gameplay you're actively avoiding a challenge. If your gameplay can be so easily duplicated by just watching a video then it's not that special.

Re: Twingalaxies down
I think that videos should just be open everywhere, hiding the footage shouldn't be even be a thing. That goes tenfold when we are dealing with a subject such as game high scores. I know that if I took the DK world record, then one day got a notification that Billy Mitchell had re-claimed the high score, I would not be too impressed if I wasn't able to see proof because Billy simply didn't want to share. Not a big deal when dealing with R.U. because I have 100% trust that all the game mods on the site are the correct people for the job, but when we are talking about a place like TG, who have in the past knowingly put up fake scores, as well as nullified valid ones, it's of utmost importance.

If a score is first place on all the leaderboards then it is the current World Record whether someone can watch their inputs or not. Your way of thinking just doesn't make any sense. It sounds like you're trying to include some idealism into what a World Record is.
There is no difference between "the current high score" and a "world record."

Well that's very debatable... to equate those 2 things is to say that the high score on any scoreboard in question is also officially the best score in the world i.e. higher than those on all other scoreboards or officially recognized records that may or may not be included on a scoreboard (example: the Pac-Man Plus wr). That's not always the case of course. In the context of your answer to what dudebro said though, i think you're right about the idealism aspect, but then again shouldn't we all aspire towards that idealistic situation? If players are hiding gameplay which ultimately has the effect of stagnating a scoreboard (and the game in question), then that 'current high score' is not a 'true' world record because it is essentially being 'sandbagged' by one or more players, is what i think dudebro is getting at. On the other hand if a top score is submitted on whatever scoreboard (video/inp proof or not) then one can't deny it as being the highest score because it is there for all to see at the #1 position until it is legitimately beaten.

The only scoreboard that I know of where they allow you to hide you're gameplay is TG. This now costs money. So, is it worth at a minimum $25 just so someone can't watch you're gameplay?
And the point I was trying to make is the irony of him asking for donations to submit these scores and then have them locked. I can just see the look on the face of the poor sap he finally talks into sponsoring his "WR" when the guy asks, "cool, you got the record, can I see it?"
When I play at the Kencade and other local arcades, not only do the world class players share their tips, they stream each and every one of their record attempts. They encourage you to go after their records and will even set up cameras and the whole nine yards to make it easy for you. They do not fear competition. They welcome it as it makes their accomplishments more worthy and it's just more fun.

Yes I know it sucks being beaten but you shouldn't try to stop people from doing so. Any way if they do beat your score then obviously it was not good enough to be classed as a world record.
I like the idea of world records and want to have them but I'd never purposely try and stop people from beating my scores.
Did anyone playing back in the arcades in the 80's get to hide their gameplay during competition or any other time? No. It shouldn't be any different.
