I would give money so that someone could save there loved pet every day of the week. But give you money to submit a MAME score to a meaningless scoreboard when it could be done for free at MARP? No chance.
Tell me if I'm wrong. The only reason you won't submit to MARP is because you don't want people to see you're gameplay?

No, I'd tell him to stop throwing away his money and use free sites like RU/ChamPow. TG is a dinosaur on the verge of extinction. Instead of trying adapt they made their extinction worse by charging people. Anyone who gives them money deserves to mocked for supporting this scam.
@NesKing2- Is that the secret? You won't steamroll our board because you're afraid of people seeing your gameplay? Lol, quit making empty boasts then, put up or shut up.

I agree with you on a lot of things but this isn't one of them. I watched your video and I'm going to assume you weren't old enough to be aware of things when DK came to the arcades. Calling DK nothing but a regular game is like saying Led Zeppelin was just a regular band or Michael Jordan was just a regular basketball player. It's just not an accurate statement.
It's hard enough to get the general public interested in people playing games they've heard of. I could be wrong but I don't think there's any chance you will get any interest in joe public watching players play games they know nothing about.

My comment regarding showing gameplay was directed toward Fellowroot although it's interesting to hear Rudy's/Nesking2's take as well.

Dude you shut up I could care less who would see my work ON THE NES end it's not like anyone seeing it will match it. it would be almost a shame to steamroll the NES scores, and ah I have done my work on real consoles, so stop Flapping your gums about ur emus to be steamrolled I'm not here to waste my time..... and I don't need too.....
If you wanna pay me for my time to submit a NEW NES score on an emu there is a little thing called an email/PM/Skype and we can talk about it...
As far as my own work that comes with urge
I'm in books and magazines, radio shows, trading cards, Guinness, all over the internet, articles/interviews and I'm known even though people think I'm not......
Any Questions
Because the CONSOLE PLAYER OF THE CENTURY is really getting sick of being harassed and belittled by a so called MOD who acts quite unprofessional.....

Re: Twingalaxies down
Anyway, back on track of this de-railed thread. I spoke to nesscout yesterday and a few others who work with Speed Demos Archives, and they didn't want to get into too much detail with Twin Galaxies bashing; But they said paying for world records is rediculous.
Essentially it not only tacks on a fee for players, but anyone who doesn't have the tools to do it their way it eliminates immediately.
I ranted about this before in the Champow and Cat Despira thread, and all of the livestream players agree with me.

Re: Twingalaxies down
It's clear that NES and possibly Fellowroot are just trolls. I watched these antics on the 360 when i was still playing there. People would post with blinders on. Refusing to acknowledge what you said and would just fuel the thread with their fuel.
Then when they challenged you and you put up a score or a runthrough they were nowhere to be found. Making up excuses along the way.
So i will leave this thread with some things that NES and fellow will so ignorantly ignore, again.
There are no arcades. Games are becoming more about graphics than it is gameplay. Why have i never been approached about being sponsored in my life? You can watch my youtube videos or you can see me on the leaderboards for the 360. Not once.
Why aren't there sites that sponsor people? Why aren't good players on youtube who are known, sponsored?
This isn't 1990 where you're entering $10,000 contests to play thunderforce - a shoot em up nonetheless, one of the least popular genre's. Where are those tourny's now? You will never see such tournaments for old games again.
How many people show up to that california extreme? I would assume less than 100. If you can't comprehend the stats behind this genre...yeah i hear badminton is going to be a multi-billion dollar sport soon. You'll see...
Comparing an aminals life (which people melt over) to WRs for kickstarters? Please, have you seriously lost your mind or are you still trying to get a laugh?
Retro is called retro for a reason.
Usually how the reply will go is about of non-sense and how i dont know what im talking about etc etc. I saved you the reply.

|
Since when did the ONLY official video game scoreboard become meaningless?
And actually I have submitted to MARP. Look here...
MAME Action Replay Page
See that top score, that's mine.
However you are right in the fact that I probably won't submit any more scores for public viewing and I will tell you why.
I am a math and physics major. All I do is solve problems all day long. When I approach video game records I see them as nothing more than problems to solve. My game play is my solution to the problem. If I just post my solutions for everyone to see than other competitive players can simply just copy my solution.
When I first submitted to Twin Galaxies I kept all of my scores open for the public to see, but then later on I was beaten by other players who then locked their inps so that I could not see their game play.
When the scores aren't so high then its really not that hard to beat someone else who has beaten you, but when several players are pushing themselves to their limits on a game then it starts getting very competitive.
For example on the MAME game named I'm Sorry. I have been competing against Clay Karczewski in many back and forth battles on this title. As a result the score on this game is getting pushed higher and higher and therefore its getting harder and harder to put up these scores.
Twin Galaxies | Scores
I had my original inp open for public download and then Clay beat me and locked his inp over mine. For all I know he is using some of my original strategies on this game against me.
Now I have since developed even more complicated and better strategies while trying to beat his score and now do you really think that I'm going to just give away all of my secrets especially to my competitor? HELL NO!
It is easy for people to just say "get your score back", but when you are a real video game competitor playing against real competition, it is easier said then done. These video game world records are sometimes very hard to do.
In all honesty it really does not make any logical sense to release your game play footage to the public. Anything you release will only just be used against you. If you want to stay on top then you show no one.

Re: Twingalaxies down
I'm locking this topic for a bit so people can calm down. If this continues when it gets reopened we'll have to start handing out infractions and suspensions. I don't think we need to do that but I've been wrong before.
@NesKing2- You are the cause of this bickering. You're gonna start being respectful or you're gonna find somewhere else to rant. I've warned you several times and I've tried to explain what you're doing wrong. I'm done, get with the program or get lost.
If anyone has any questions, comments or rants feel free to PM me.

Ok I'm reopening this. Lets keep the discussion civil and on topic. If anyone has trouble with that I will be dealing with them directly, no more warnings.

Do you really stand by that question?
That scoreboard became meaningless since TG(I):
1. failed to deal with all the glaring scoreboard issues (impossible scores, wrong tracks, mixed tracks, etc);
2. failed to support their volunteer staff and got so backlogged that countless (w)records were never entered into the database;
3. blocked the PUBLIC scores FROM.THE.PUBLIC (i.e. those without TG usernames);
4. became an entirely for-profit organization;
5. now charges montrous fees to (try to!) expand the scoreboard.
6. has created a situation that for the most part will only stimulate USA and possibly Canadian players (who are able to attend live events more easily/readily), to put arcade scores up on the scoreboard without having to pay fees (yes i know traveling costs a lot too, but that's not relevant to the issue).

Regardless of the reasons you gave here (although i do understand them), you are/were contributing to the exact reason that the TG(I) scoreboard became gradually more defunct. You are looking at it subjectively and not objectively. If players are not submitting their very best scores due to fear or worries of getting beat back again, scoreboard will NOT reflect any official level of anything! And now that the fees have reached preposterous heights, TG is further contributing to its own inevitable downfall. At least where the scoreboard is concerned. Better to start calling it "a collection of random scores from when TG was still doing okay".

This is unsporting of Clay, nevertheless your reasoning is flawed - how can he 'use your strategies against you', at most his score would then be equal to yours and you would have to put in more effort (as is the case in any competition anyway) to progress higher. If his score exceeds yours, then he is more efficient at using strategies, even if you're the one who developed them.

Fair point. Especially when you have a wide range of games you excel at such as yourself. I still feel strongly that hiding gameplay is not the (best) solution. It may solve your own leaderboard issues, but is detrimental to gaming as a whole. Are you here at RU to put in your 3rd best effort on games as well so that others can't see your newest strategies?

And to me, it does not make logical sense to hide your gameplay. I would welcome a challenge to have my own gameplay 'used against me', awesome! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all. If you want to be the absolute best at a game, you want people including your closest competitor(s), to be able to SEE your actual gameplay and STILL not be able to top your scores! THAT is imo what equates to being at the top of the tree, not hiding strategies and sitting there hoping someone else doesn't develop better ones!

Aart I see Fellow point console games tactics are FAR different than arcade see many arcade games like DK, Pacman etc have one pattern and one board and SOME consoles do too, BUT many don't and we had and still prob have corrupt refs and we know we have corrupt players like Ryan Sullivan, Tom Duncan and several others....
And if someone is good enough LIKE myself and I see your game play REGARDLESS of the game I will and if I want to be able to duplicate and beat the run or points.....
That was how I trained getting better before I discovered things that I KNOW nobody else KNOWS on quite a few games and that is why many of my scores stood and will continue to stand for some time and some FOREVER minus the maxouts
---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:49 AM ----------
If its something I did that can only be duplicated or something I know I can beat back forever Ill post it, I soon have one coming but wont reveal till its done but it's close and when it's done it will be next to IMPOSSIBLE to even tie.......

Not to mention and MANY will back me up with it being 2013 there are things worse than Game Genie used EMU's are a big issue because so many things can be done, Lag free systems, camera tricks and edits, special controllers, and so much more making it so ANYONE can cheat and do whatever to get in the book or be in the spotlight............
I have asked TG and others over 100 times when are Tom Duncans bogus scores gonna be removed
Ryan Sullivans and Grace Snokes scandalous scores she verified for him and placing him in Guinness 17 times or more including a FAKE score I proved live.....
Why did they bring David Nelson back

Re: Twingalaxies down
If you're too afraid to post your gameplay video then your score is lame. If you can't be confident in your score then it's probably not the best it can be. A high score isn't impressive if you only keep it by hiding the relevant info from people. A high score should stand based on the users skill.

If you don't mind me butting in for a second, the best example to excelled gameplay in world record attempts is the NES game Gimmick.
Go search it, and see if you can bat the game, with all of the items, without a continue.
A guy has the world record, and is ahead of everyone by a full minute. His record hasn't been challenged because the guy is literally the Bruce Lee of Gimmick, and watching him play the game is like watching an art form.
There are going to be scores that people will not be able to duplicate. either because of RNG (Random Number Generation) or simply by luck. Technique and skill have plenty to do with it, but some world records just simply are based on either complete mastery of the game, or just dumb luck.
(I have the world record technically as per TG on Street Fighter Alpha on SNES, complete RNG luck, if you watched it, you would agree with me)
From what I've seen from the younger WR community, they share their work, and love the competition between themselves. Most of them are not pompous or withstanding of their records, and even generate followers and fans through streaming. Hell, even when I hit really big scores and people ask me what my strategies are, I give them to the people. What do I care if someone beats a score I have? I know I did something great, and I got a very large score and pushed someones motivation to beat something I created.
In short, don't be offended when someone decides to try to beat your world record. Not only are they trying to compete with you, but winning a race with yourself not only looks stupid but is a complete waste of your time.
