Ask "how" to play a game!
I feel sometimes it's alright to ask how to play a game (objectives, gameplay, physics, controls, etc...), granted that information on the game is so bad or so scarce that it becomes unbearable to play (do NOT ask about flash games; if it's too hard to play, it's probably because it's crap).
Also, if you answer your own question, please explain so others like myself do have to retrace your foot steps.
I'll start:
How do I get to stage 2 in Hana No Star Kaido - NES?
I figured out how to enter doors and use stairs and what some items do, for example: records (need 5+ to enter and stay in buildings) and tapes protect you from projectiles, sax and guitar give you momentary invinciblity.

I couldn't figure it out when I played it either, this was a few years ago though.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
Did you get as far as I did though? I'm guessing it has something to do with the harajuku - killerdouri staircases and the tapes, but I have no idea what those are; the harajuku counter in the upper left corner increases by one when you go through it.
Also I can't figure out how to jump from poles or attack enemies (if either possible at all) for Monezuma's Revege - Gameboy Color.

I just remember getting to the end of the screen, and doubling back, then eventually giving up. I don't recall anything about tapes or harajuku or anything.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
Your press A+B+Left/ A+B+Right to use stairs and doors; I'm trying to make a guide and have mapped out 3 of the 5 dungeons (of the 5 building doors on stage 1), but I've still not gotten to stage 2, also you cannot collect multiple tapes and if you get hit by a projectiles it's the first thing you lose. The heart meter if your relitive timer and both lose a life if it runs out, so it's better to kill one of the two instead to stretch out your lives.

I like the thread idea Fudgy. I moved it to the "Tips" section, so more people will hopefully see it when looking for help with games.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
I've done it before but how do get the extra lives on Mirax - Coin Op, is from killing enough of the purple ships that give auto-fire, or something else? I find if I shoot everything I get it, but that seems "lame".

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
The purple ships give auto-fire? I wondered what did.
As for extra lives, actually it is from killing enough of those 2000 point ships that appear from time to time and try to escape of the left or right side of the screen. Every time you kill one you get a flag at the bottom of the screen and after you get enough flags you get an extra man.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
What do those bubbles do on stage 4, do you get a bigger bonus after killing all of them, or are they just more annoying projectiles?

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
To me they are just annoying projectiles and I have never managed to kill them all so maybe you do get something good if you manage to. Most likely you just get bonus points like other ship groups though.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
Why does sometimes when you kill a swarm of ships you don't get the bonus traingles? A good example of this is on stage one, before the worm thing, the first swarm of purple ships (the ones that produces projectiles) if you kill all of them you don't get the traingles.
Also, what changes the number of blue ships right before the first worm thing (varies from 1 or 2 to about 7)?

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
Not sure but I always found it was ground target groups that make the bonus triangles appear. Missing some ground targets change how many appear after it seems. Also how quickly you kill the worm thing also affects this too it seems.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
For Argus - Coin Op, what changes the bonus item you get (e.g. speed, sheild, bomb, etc.)?

I just tried it and from what I can tell every time you nail one of the letters with the laser beam it lights up one of the 3 of the same letter at the bottom. Once you have 3 of a type then that power-up appears.
Now if I could just figure out how to kill that first boss.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
You shoot out the purple spots and then fire at the shielded spot in the center untill it blows up.
I can't figure out how to kill the floating heads, I can blast off the hair alright, but never fully kill one.
Also, how many power-ups do you need to upgrade the gun (best I've done is two)?

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
Three power-ups seem to upgrade the gun. Although I am bit confused about the second level now as it changes your weapon and bombs.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
On Time Limit - Coin-Op, where's the second time-bomb? I've looked pretty far above but have had no luck finding it.

Found it, 1 floor up, then go down the ladder and to the right, the third level gets signifigantly faster though.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
Nice job. You and Elrod are going to town on this game. Wish I could join you but I just started coaching my sons football team so gaming time is scarce these days.
Since there is a Million + score up on MARP, I assume the levels repeat eventually.

I hope they repeat. That would be too much to remember.

Re: Ask "how" to play a game!
I can't move for some reason, I tried reconfiguring the control settings but still nothing happens; the teeth just sit in the center of the screen and I can only press start to change the level.

Hmm weird, I was away from my gaming PC so I just used the default keys on the keyboard, they worked fine. I had the same issue for about 2 years where my directional pad wouldn't work for Coleco, only the buttons would work. I remember Elrod giving me the solution, but I can't remember what it was. It might have been the you need to set your controls in both the "this system", aswell as the "this game" tab.
Yeah the event where you throw it up the canyon off your foot, I can catch it and throw it, but I can't get any decent distance, and I know it's not because I'm not button mashing fast enough, I'm not the fastest in the world but I can mash pretty darn quick.
