In Donkey Kong the ultimate challenge is to reach the kill screen with the maximum number of points, hence the World Record focus on the high score. In theory the current WR could still be pushed a bit higher.
For the arcade version of Pacman, the highest score possible is 3,333,360. This is the World Record which has been achieved by a few people. The ultimate challenge is then to complete this (very difficult) task in the shortest time.
(Myself I'm stoked if I manage to get through about a dozen screens of either)
Re the World Records on RU, I understand Kong is compiling them from a couple of places and it's a work in progress.
