Because it's supposed to be really good? Not sure what else you'd want me to say. I haven't played it but I see no reason why it shouldn't be number 1 if it's seemingly well made and popular. Sounds more like you're venting because you think it sucks, because you personally don't like it.

In my opinion this Mortal Kombat is a lot more friendly to new players (like me), for one very simple reason: the moves list for all moves is accessible at any time. This is a huge improvement from all of the other games in the series.

Before this, in MK4 and before (and maybe newer ones but I haven't played them) the only way you could look at the moves list was to go into training mode, or print a list off of the internet. Now you just pause the game for only a few seconds and memorize a few moves and then you're having fun right away and not after memorizing the entire moves list and losing to your friend.

That alone makes it much more fun. It's also doesn't take itself seriously which makes it a fun party game. Other fighting games (Street Fighter) have a no nonsense serious business approach which makes it hard to get into if people of different skill levels are present. Granted at the highest skill levels all fighting become like that (and they should) but MK9 goes a long way to make it a fun experience for everyone.

And now my rant: I hate the word 'hardcore' used to describe that one segment of the video game market.

A lot of really good and popular games were released around March/April. Do they all deserve to be #1?

I do admit I most likely over spoke when I labeled MK as a hardcore title. It probably lies in between core and hardcore because even though it panders to the hardcore it also plays on nostalgia as well. That's about where I'd put Metroid games as well.

I doubt it. From browsing the xbox forums I see lots of people with it in their recent played list and I haven't heard any complaints besides about the online pass code(which is garbage). It's just a good game apparently. I doubt I'll get it though. Not that I hate MK, far from it, but I'm still bitter about how annoying Tekken 6 is online. I doubt this will be much different.

Calling what exactly? Seems like it'd be hard to judge if it's unpopular by being returned a lot. You have to also consider that a huge portion of the gaming community buys games, beat them as fast as possible, then exchanges them for the next new thing. Just because Gamestop has a ton for sale doesn't mean jack really.

Actually from what I have heard, people are saying the story mode in this one is one of the best in any fighting game. I just picked up the game, so I will check it out this weekend.

I havent played it, but it looks stiff as ever, I can't beleive the series still pauses you in mid air after landing a jump kick.

You're such an exaggerator. I love games by Atlus, WayForward, Majesco, Xseed, etc... as well.

I like their games on other systems as well.
