Regardless of how long they've been amassing this power, take into consideration the amount of power and the rate at which they've been amassing it. They are nowhere near the level of "1984" and the rate won't bring them to that level by the time 2012 comes to a close. Maybe in 2050 it will become a realistic possibility to be looking at the sort of power in "1984".
And by then, I'll be fifty-seven and probably paranoid to no end, living inside of some concrete bunker underground. At least if I keep reading your posts, problem is that I like your posts and not reading them is thus not an option. Damn it.
