rename FFII
so i noticed there was a Final Fantasy 2 on the super nintendo, out of curiosity i checked it out and saw that it was Final Fantasy 4
i relise that when final fantasy 2 and 3 came out the US didn't get them so This super nintendo game was called 4 in Japan and 2 in the US. is the title an error or am i missing something, im still unclear on this whole trickery, all i know is that when they first came out, all we got were 1 4 6 7 and onwards
now im even more confused, i did some reasearch and what i understand is that 2 and 3 were never released in english, so how do we have them, can someone make sense of this for me?

Re: rename FFII
The American FF2 and FF3 are really the FF 4 and FF6.
The Japanese FF2, FF3, and FF5 were not released in the US at their initial release. They have seen be re-released on multiple consoles, including the Playstation, GBA, the DS, and on several smartphones.
Translations of the other games have been made.
All Final Fantasy games since FF7 have been released worldwide.

Re: rename FFII
We use Roman numerals to refer to the American numbered games (II and III, really 4 and 6) and Alphabetical numbers for the Japanese numbered games. (2 and 3 appropriately)
so just a quick note if you don't like the bs titles,
Here's how they are listed on R.U:
1-Final Fantasy
2-Final Fantasy 2
3-Final Fantasy 3
4-Final Fantasy II
5-Final Fantasy V(doesn't matter, there's no other five)
6-Final Fantasy III

Re: rename FFII
Final Fantasy 2 did come out in America for the game boy advance and PS1 it was bundled with final fantasy 1 I think the bundle was called Final fantasy chronicles and it was a way different game then our final fantasy 2. You got to chose from different costumes what your character would be and what powers he would have I think there were fourteen in all very much like Final Fantasy X-2. Also you had to level up your weapon skill to get stronger attacks as well also your armor, magic, and items skills as well so that it could block more damage, hit stronger, etc so buying new gear would not mean that it would hurt or block more

That's probably III(jp). Final Fantasy II(jp) does not let you change classes; However, leveling up your skill with weapons occurs only in II(jp), so you may thinking of a mix between the two games. Final Fantasy V was the one that was bundled on to a PS1 disk.

Re: rename FFII
FFIII was not released on the Playstation in the USA, it has only been released on the DS.
The Playstation had two FF collections (Anthology and Chronicles?).
One had ports of FF I & II.
The other had FF IV & V.

Re: rename FFII
Both III and II had that and I think V as well. Upon looking at my PS1 games I found out the game with II in it is called Final Fantasy Origins

II(jp) does not have class swapping, but your characters were completely customizable.
Final Fantasy Origins contains Final Fantasy I and II(jp)
Final Fantasy Anthology contains Final Fantasy V and VI, but the PAL version had IV and V

Final Fantasy Anthology is Final Fantasy V and VI(I'm playing 6 at the moment using the PS1 disc)
Final Fantasy Chronicles is Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger
