Nostalgia Critic: Godzilla (1998)

Often labeled one of the worst monster movies of all time and the worst film in the
Godzilla franchise, the American reboot is one disaster the Nostalgia Critic couldn't
resist to see.

AVGN talked about this one while reviewing 'genuine' Toho monster movies, and said something about Toho having included the American Godzilla in one of their productions, calling him simply 'Zilla' {meaning that they don't consider him to be a God - just kidding} and having few or no powers.

So how do you like that?
The makers of the original King of the Monsters snubbed the modern, C.G.I. version of their creation ... to tell the truth I feel the same way - it followed that 'Hollywood Formula' {Van Helsing being a prime example of this} too closely and ended up with a show that reminds me of Independence Day way too much, like they could have had Godzilla attacking right along side of the Alien ships, you know?
Or is it just me?

I agree, this movie was an insult to the iconic franchise.

And the Nerd is right, in Godzilla: Fianl Wars, Zilla and Godzilla fight, and Godzilla kills Zilla in
less than 10 seconds. It was hilarious.

But this abomination did spawn an awesome TV series that I enjoyed as a child.

Did you mean the 80's cartoon?

I only got to see like one episode, and got gypped of the entire Godzilla experience.

You see, back in the stone age {the '70's} you were lucky to even have had cablevision and most likely only had one TV in the house.

So if your dad was a sports nut like mine then you would rarely if ever get to see anything else.
It was horrible, especially when my friends would be like:

'Hey, did you watch The Terror of Mechagodzilla on TV yesterday?
You DIDN'T? - Oh, man - you missed out on an awesome show ...'
{to give you one example of the horrors I suffered}

It was bummerific.
I get upset when I think about it, sorry.
