It was awesome. It was. As a child it was like walking into a gladiatorial arena and being faced by a horde of warriors all skilled in different things, and those were just the games.

The thrill of finding another gamer to provide a worthy challenge in a game was awesome in its own way. That's one of the great things about RU. It makes it possible with players all over the world.

I would imagine fighters being very tough but i just bought super street fighter 4, and the combos are like the old school ones with 3 punches or kick. I dont own an arcade stick to play with but I think if I bought an old street fighter arcade machine I could mess someone up with Ken ^_^

Getting 20$ to waste on an arcade is one of the best feelings ever.

Nowadays there are very few arcade centers in the mainland USA it seems. However in PR there is at least one huge Time-Out in each major mall or movie theater, where the arcade lives on. They are so popular they must have policies denying dentrance to minors during school hours =P.

Everywhere else, there are a bazillion cabs for SNK games.... I don't think SNK is shipping any new machines down there but Neo Geo stuff can be had for super cheap.

According to Enemy Ace it seems this happens in Brazil as well....it shows how much game studios could actually sell if they actually localize games and decrease the cost.

Myself, I was too old to really get in on it, I was not at the level of the Street Fighter and later KOF and Tekken players down there. I remember there were always big crowds around those machines.

When I was a kid like 5-6 years old, the arcade was the best place on earth. I wasn't allowed to go because of heavy drug activity associated with the place, but I would sneak in there and pretend I was playing the games, and maybe, just maybe I would have a single quarter on the odd occasion.

I felt the same when I was a kid, and still feels it playing here in the RU.
In some ways, here is even better than a real arcade.

Well, here the arcade is free, and the high scores are forever =). You have access to probably 99% of games you might have heard of. And you have a great community to discuss games with.

It is, as you have said before, a slice of Valhalla, no =)?

Me too. I agree in many ways RU tops arcades. One of the biggest reasons is you can even play the super rare games here that you would never find in a local arcade.

Best part are the opponents, "players all over the world", as Winnebagel says before. It's like to be part of the Round Table, a knight among knights, playing games and tournaments.

Other things you cited I've had for a long time, but compete only against yourself is boring. Find a good opponent for play Ms. Pacman or Tetris, so yeah, it's great.

Or maybe it's just for me.

It's a shame they don't have Ms.Pac-Man machines anywhere around where I live.

Got a new high score while on vacation:

My score: 247,430
Hi score: 252,360

Only 5000 short =/. The power pellets weren't working anymore. I lost because two ghosts were stacked on each other and I didn't notice until I was cornered =(.

Awesome.

One time I went to Japan, and I beat several Japanese dudes in Street Fighter IV. Best thing ever.

And in arcades in Japan, you can smoke cigarettes. Which is awesome.
