Okay so I can agree that "hypnotism" doesnt exist, (I just saw a hypnotist say it on youtube), however the people who have succumb to the power of suggestion, have no control over their actions. Why we say this is a different thing than hypnotism, I have no idea. Can someone please explain to me the difference is? Bottom line is these people are not faking it.

I think some of us have trouble understanding how others can let themselves be so easily manipulated by calm words and trickery. I say trickery because all they're doing is fooling the brain, imo.

Not trying to troll but I think this same thing happens with religion. Not everyone is being manipulated but many impressionable people are cowed by it imo.

I can only speak to my personal experience. I faked my way through it. Are you sure you just aren't weak minded?

specifically, what the hypnotist told us st the start was that it's getting people to the suggestive state like DN said. I can't remember specifically but if you caught someone in thst like 7-minute pre-sleep they'd do whatever you told them. Simply because you can't remember the 7-8 minutes leading up to actually falling asleep. You are in a different state here but I'm not sure it's a hypnotic state, that was never said. What was also said was stuff like every 45 mins you have a brief hypnotic state this being whenever you concentrate on something non-realistic going on while still staring at something, you aren't paying attention to reality. You're stating at something thinking about something not currently in your reality. I'm not sure you follow but that was what I was told before. The memory is fuzzy but I remember stuff along those lines said. He also said there is no trickery or magic to it, it's all about catching people at the right moment where they are in their subconcious mind and not in their concious mind. I'm pretty sure that was the jist of it but my memory is fuzzy since he triggered our minds to remember when we slept. I had no clue until I slept and that was my main dream that night. It's amazing what the mind can do and I still have that pain thing running for a week (Saturday), Any time I hi-five it's like a mini electric shock everywhere and I can't resist a hi-five if offered. This is triggered by my subconcious mind and isn't real but it's cool, yeah painful and I'm being tormented by kids that discovered this :x

If you have a headache and you take a pill that you think is an aspirin then your headache will most likely go away even if the pill was fake. The power of a placebo is incredibly strong. If you believe in hypnotism, then it is real. If you do not believe then it is not real. I guess that is just another way of saying "some people are open to suggestion" and some are not.

I don't believe I'm weak minded because I've gone to see hypnotism shows before and never got hypnotized. I was always skeptic of it so before going to a show I decided to follow the instructions of breathing and letting myself go to see if anything would happen. Something did happen but I was snapped out of the "suggestive" smooth talking of the hypnotist.

The mind is a powerfull thing. I always take a shot of tequila and follow it up with a beer to get rid of a cold. That's a placebo that always works for me

I rarely take any form of medicine and I haven't been to the doctor in years. I think the only stuff I'll take is novacane at the dentist.

I'm glad I didn't have your experience, because if I was left with some kind of residual effect like your 'high five' thing, I would be mad as hell.
What does it matter whether it was 'real' or not, or even if you volunteered for it:
You've been left with a condition you didn't ask for.

Certainly it would be something great if you were hypnotized to quit smoking or some other beneficial effect, but ...

REGARDING the 'reality' of hypnotism: whether it's real or just a 'trick', I don't see any difference if the effect is the same.
Believers of Voodoo perform feats of amazing bodily control while in a 'trance', like stab long metal skewers through both cheeks, but don't bleed: does the reality of it matter to them?

They've achieved a state of mind which allows them to control things we normally cannot, such as blood flow in certain parts of the body.
I just hope they can go back to being 'normal' if they want to afterwords.

Situations like that make me think that hypnotism is the DOS of the human mind: a back - door programming trick which can be used to access or override certain brain functions.

It's like Jedi mind tricks.

Good points JG, especially on the voodoo thing, if it happens, the reality of it is unimportant. If you are given a placebo and it works, then the fact that it is a placebo, and therefore useless, is meaningless, because it worked.

I'm not trying to educate you on how to write, or on how many sentences are in a paragraph, I'm just saying that it's hard to read from a large block of uninterrupted text on a white background.

I want to read everything you wrote here but if I'm having a hard time looking at the screen to do so, I may miss some key point and therefore not get what you're trying to say.

Anyhow, I really do hope that your 'high five' thing went away, and that it shall never return.

If anyone wants to know about this then someone should get Oasis to tell his story of being hypnotized he has gone under the spell.. Even tho he was not called on stage he went under being out in the audience, which made it even better.

I would do it again. Aint ever using hypnotherapy if I start seeing white owls at 3 in the morning. I'd prefer to not break my spinal cord :-/ Frigging movie I watched has me scared to frigging death for those that have no idea what I'm talking about. That movie had live footage thrown in (Fourth Kind).

Teachers should teach you how to be unique and creative not mindless robots that follow set rules on how to express yourselves.

That is just typical. Applying set rules that you always follow when expressing yourself is dull and uninteresting for you and the reader.
There are different types of writing - books, forum, email, essays, love letters, journal etc. Your teacher is trying to teach you one form, essays, the kind you are least likely to use in your life.
You should start a new paragraph every time you start a new idea and you should try to keep your ideas short especially on the internet where people have very short attention spans. After 3 or 4 lines on the Internet people stop reading and start skimming.

Cam, I'm not picking on you or your teacher but our education system as a whole. I'm also not telling you to ignore your teacher, skip homework or fail class. Just know that your teachers aren't telling your everything and they can sometimes be wrong.

Wow, I wish I had those teachers.
Most teachers here support the idea of the five paragraph essay, but an essay is at least three paragraphs (according to my English teacher), intro, body, conclusion.

now you know why I haven't been writing reviews. Imagine 7 essays needing over 5 paragraphs that long... But, I was writing a review, took me 3 months because of essays but it's finally up on my other site. 8 pages long on word, been proofread like 4 times and altered many times.
