Hypnotism

Don't ask about debate since hypnosis is in fact a natural body function but I'm just curious to see peoples stories if it's ever happened to them like professionally at an event or whatever.

Personally, for me it was yesterday. Bowling finished and that was the entertainment and I was joking around with a few people saying I'd only go up if they did knowing they wouldn't. Turns out, they did... I figured I'd try it out and so I sat in a chair along with like 9 other people. Next thing I knew I was obviously making a fool of myself standing out of my chair with only 7 of the other volunteers posing. No recolection it was 2 o clock before and it was now 4 o clock. I didn't regain recolection until the next time I slept per the hypnotists commands apparently but now I remember it all and holy crap... Had no control but I did some stuff such as playing Air guitar like a retard had to pretend to audition for that dance show I can't remember it's name but I hate that show whatever it is. Had to feel like I was freezing at the north pole and pretty much wound up in a dog pile with everyone else (to name a few things) and none of us remember it until now I'm sure but he also made it so we love hi-fives and feel frozen whenever we hi-five someone. That only lasts for a week thankfully but now none of us can resist a hi-five if offered. I am shocked but It's hilarious looking back at some of the other people. There was probably an audience of 100+ people and I guess the owner of the center and some other kid left early since they wound up lying on the floor during the start of it.
almost everyone was taking pics or videos so I could probably find a video by now on youtube if I tried

Anyone else undergo a hypnotism thing like this or witness it?

I don't believe it. Someone tried to hypnotize me once and it didn't work. Ever since I've always felt that people who are, are just acting.

i don't think it is a myth or whatever, but it does have everything to do with how open to suggestion you are. at my project graduation, about 12 of us volunteered to be hypnotized including my brother and best friend, ultimately, the guy doing the hypnotism had my brother, someone else, and myself sit down because we "weren't open to suggestion" i don't think the others were faking

I tried and had to sit down aswell, but there's no way the other dozen people were faking. One funny thing that happened, during the show was he had one guy building a sand castle and another guy running around like a were wolf i think it was, anyway the werewolf runs right through the imaginary sand castle and the guy chases the werewolf into the crowd and starts wailing on him.

lol. Yeah, it's all about how open to suggestion you are. It didn't work on me at first because I was too afraid of it since I just didn't know how it worked. I wanted to truly see though so I didn't want to not try so he got me in the process of it later since I really wanted to see and was open to it after.

I don't think it is real or that people are faking it. I think it is more along the lines of a placebo. Your mind believes hypnotism is real so you are hypnotized. If you do not believe or are just unsure then you will not be hypnotized because it is not really real.

Just to be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with being tricked by placebos. Everyone is tricked by a placebo nearly every day.

Just to be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with being tricked by placebos. Everyone is tricked by a placebo nearly every day.

I agree with this. I think some people are able to basically shut their mind off and just go with it. I doubt it would work on me but I'm honestly afraid of trying it. I don't like the idea of some jackass humiliating me while I'm basically sleep walking.
No offense to cam or anyone else who claims to have been put under but I think you really are more open to suggestion. I don't think it would work on most of the other regulars though since we're mostly a bunch of skeptics and we'd resist.

I got hypnotized once. I was always skeptic so I decided there is only one way to find out for sure. I just followed the instructions and let myself go. I ended up waking up on stage because the guy next to me was trying to hug me and snapped me out of the hypnotic state. I was unable to walk on my own and was helped off the stage.

hahaha! I didn't notice how that came out wrong. Yeah I think he was trying to get more than a hug. Good thing I woke up before anything could happen. I couldn't walk on my own because I felt faint. Waking up after being hypnotized made most of my body numb. Kind of like when your leg falls asleep and you start walking all funny. Well like that but on both your legs.

I heard about some guy who got hypnosis and whent nut-case deluxe. The hypnotiser got four days in jail... sucks to be tthat guy, or both guys.

I have seen quite a few shows about hypnosis.

From what I can tell, all hypnosis does is make you sleepy, at which point you will be less embarrassed by anything you might do in public and you will be more open to participation.

Either that or you just fall asleep.

I was "hypnotized" in college and in my opinion, the whole thing was fake. Here's how it went down:

It was similar to Cam's description. There were several hundred people watching the hypnotist (ie - performer) and about a dozen were brought onstage. I was one of those dozen. He "hypnotized" all of us, and began removing people until there were only 4 or 5 of us. I was one of those 4 or 5 and I faked "sleep" the entire time. When they woke me up, I was asked to tell a joke, but would forget the punchline. I went to the front and did as I was told, BUT I could have easily told the punchline. I believe many of the others were manipulated into the same thing.

There is clinical hypnotism, which might be different, but I believe this kind of "performance hypnotism" takes advantage of the mob mentality and gets the volunteers to play along and do stupid/funny things to amuse the crowd. That's why the weed out a bunch of people. Somehow they determine who is and who isn't playing along. It was a long time ago, so I can't remeber.

Overall, I think hypnotism is completely staged and entirely phony. At least in the manner that Cam and I experienced.

No way Tanc. I personally saw a friend of mine go up and dance and sing and what not. She's so shy she had trouble just getting up in class to do a speech. That and I sure as hell wasn't faking it.

I agree with Tanc. I think the hypnotist requires skill to do what they are doing but it is a trick not hypnotism, just like seances and fortune telling.

So my personal experience is a lie I came up with? Come on. I've seen people fall down and hit the ground hard while hypnotized. You're telling me that they soldier thru just for the show?
