No worries Cam. I had wanted to play Top Gear 3000 back when it was first released for the SNES anyway, but never did. I actually think it's a pretty decent racing game for it's time. Unfortunately I just ended up having a lot of technical difficulties with it, but they didn't spoil the game for me.

No you're thinking of NT. Imo the N64 version is the worst. I <3 the one in this contest.

I really enjoyed the SNES one. It's the first in the series I played, but it's cool. I realized how tough it was when I started getting farther and money started becoming a big deal.

It's the first in the series so it's kind of limited over all. Still a classic game though, nothing else like it really.
NT swears by the N64 one so it must be good, you might like it. I was such a big fan of the first that it kind of ruined it for me.
I didn't have a problem with money but I also didn't buy anything really(just healing and reviving). Years ago I used to go bankrupt all the time.
Good job on finishing the contest. I'm glad it didn't drag out too long.

Cool. I plan on checking out the rest of the series not to see how it plays out.

Thanks DB. It was a fun contest. I hope everyone enjoyed it. I know there was a bit of drama in the middle, but hopefully there are no hard feelings. There were a bunch of tough games in contest. It really did feel like a Marathon, but I liked it.
Thanks

I think the coolest version is Tactics Ogre. It's probably kind of rare on the consoles but you should be able to get a game boy version pretty cheap. It's like Final Fantasy Tactics but more challenging and deep.

None at all on my end. I've been staying away from this topic to avoid sparking it back up in a negative way.

It is the issue. The baseline SNES hardware is currently well emulated in most SNES emulators.
There are currently no 100% realiable emulators written for the DSP series of chips for SNES cartridges. Top Gear 3000 is the only game to use the DSP-4. Since this chip is present in only one cartridge it hasn't really been researched into like the DSP-1 which appears in lots of other games (Mario Kart, Pilotwings are examples). Mind you that DSP-1 emulation is still incomplete, the only way it will be figured out is if someone sacrifices their cartridge and gets these chips decapped (plastic black block removed exposing the inner die) so that analysis can be done on the internals.
The only way to properly play it currently is on a real SNES.

Re: Team Marathon II
Top Gear 3000 didn't have many copies released compared to your average snes game. My brothers alwsys said it was rented out at video stores. I laugh at that fact though since the first time we got it from the video store, it was because we bought it, lol. I think it was rented a lot though. The snes can't budge an inch without freezing this game, and I don't havr that issue with any other snes game.

Edit: Why does it work for some of us then seahawk? That's what gets me. Especially since I have a 7-year old XP that I'm using. Think most people here have better PC's than me.
Edit 2: Guess I'm kind of lucky to own the actual cartidge if it's the only way to really play it.

If you move the SNES unit, then you may misalign the connections between the pins of the cartridge and the SNES connector, which may result in distortion of the electrical signal communications between the two, which leads to broken software timings, which leads to misinterpreted opcodes/data on the CPU, which leads to misbehaving programs =P. This is excaberated with games using extra processors, communications timings between the SNES CPU and the cartridge chip must be exact for correct function. Also, games with these chips (but not the DSP-1, maybe not the rest of the DSP series either?), have extra pins on the side, see attached pic. The top is a JPN SNES cartridge (note the curvy shape, NOT AN N64 CART) with the extra pins. The bottom one is a US or PAL normal cartridge.

Emulators of the DSP-4 are unstable, the crashing is random, depending on the sequence of instructions executed by the emulator, when executing thousands of instructions in sequence it is impossible to know what will lead up to the crash.

Yep. The only emulator I know that is 100% compatible with everything on the SNES is bsnes, but I read before that even the author doesn't have 100% emulation of that chip, and bsnes requires a much faster computer to run than ZSNES or Snes9X. And anyways no software can truly match hardware. Lucky you =P.

Thanks NT.
On OB, after playing the first, I really am interested in checking out how the series plays out and evolves from there.

I had fun with it too. In some ways this was my favorite contest yet because there were so many challenging games to play. Very tough, and it really felt like a Marathon.
Thanks DJ! You guys were awesome too buddy. You, Steven, Wolfman, and Jim really rocked.
GOM did great too with Seahawk, Tanc, DB, and Tenser.
MM had a nice showing too with Cameron, Brawlmaster, Drunkninja, and MJ23.
I think everyone did well this time around. It was another close one, and I think it was a nice change of pace to do a contest where the goal was to beat games instead of go for the high score like the prior couple were. It keeps the variety going.
Thanks for putting it together Tenser. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks Dojah. We tried to do the best we could with the few active players that we had. I thought it was cool that all of the teams did really well though.
Congrats to Bagel for busting his Bagel-Buns and pulling off an incredible win with 1945k.
...Way to go bro!

I honestly wished I had more time, I only had every other week to do something, then other crap happened that only allowed me to do Zelda 2. >< As soon as this ends I am not busy anymore. That ticks me off.
Thanks btw.

Thanks, WB. I'm a bit dissapointed with Sweet home, made a stupid save and now I can't beat it without starting over... I do have some bragging rights in being the first one to complete a game within 24 hours of the start time
Good job to GOM and EC especially. I'm impressed with some of these victories especially 1945 KIII.
VB did quite good too. You still placed well and had some good and quick wins.
Congrats to Sabby, GG & Wolfman for completing Top Gear 3000 also, it's certainly no cakewalk to beat that one on the hardest difficulty.

I'm sorry to heat about the save file. Maybe you can play it again for fun one day, so you can see the ending.

Thanks Cam. Everyone did really well. Good point about Sabby too. I unintentionally forgot to mention him before, but getting Top gear done is no easy feat, and is quite an accomplishment.

Thanks Dojah and everyone. This was VERY fun and challenging. I for one will look forward to the next one, whenever that may be.
I want to also say good job to everyone on the teams and to WB, Guru & Tails great job guys.
