Jordan Eberle resigned until the end of 2019 for 6 million a year, same as Taylor Hall.
Question. If there is a full season lockout, do players contracts still subtract a year off by the start of the 2013-2014 season?
Example, we just signed Eberle for six years ending in 2019, if this lockout happens all year, does Eberles contract still expire in 2019? Or does it now expire in 2020 since there was a lockout?
I have no idea. I would assume if they play any games this season, the clock starts ticking whether is 82 or 41. If they don't play at all, no one is getting paid, so the clock shouldn't start.

I'm fuzzy on the details, but in an attempt to make a Stand, Alberta (Oilers, Flames) argued that due to their provincial law, the two teams cannot be locked out unless the nod is given by the province or something. something similar exists in Quebec, also validating Montreal in this stand.
Technically, this is just trying to send a message to the NHL, but this could also mean that there is a league this year consisting of just the Oilers, the Flames, and the Canadiens.
One things for sure, the odds of Oilers winning is significantly better with this :P I hope it's for real, if there's a lockout, that would be cool if Edmonton, Calgary, and Montreal weren't. a 3 team season is better than no season.
I'm not sure exactly how this works, but hey, I'll take it over a lockout. Maybe if Canucks are locked out, then the cable would actually stop being retarded, and take away the blackouts present on the Oilers, Flames, and Canadiens.
Edit: I'm looking up more now, but I got excited, and posted about it.

In Alberta, an employer is not legally allowed to lock out its employees without a mediator, and the PA is arguing that the NHL has not worked with the mediator assigned to this situation in August.
In Quebec, an employer cannot lock out its employees unless they are represented by a union certified by the province’s labor, which the PA is not. The players are arguing that would make a lockout unlawful, a tactic first reported by the Montreal Gazette.
I'm not sure, I wondered the same thing actually. Maybe the laws weren't in place back then? Maybe the idea of having a cap was supported since at the time teams like Edmonton couldn't afford to compete with the likes of new york or Detroit in funding a team without a cap.

Montreal will now be locked out as well They are working on doing the same for Edmonton & Calgary. Screw them. Words cannot describe how ridiculous this is, Billionaires throwing fits over millions, that's like pennies to them. They'll lose plenty in angry fans leaving, and merchandise sales dropping. I'm sure I don't need to explain much of this though.
So Montreal locked out, Edmonton and Calgary on the chopping block, NHL heading for the lockout in general, and on top of that, Justin Bieber was offered a contract by an ECHL team (2 leagues below the NHL)... Yeah, that happened: Justin Bieber offered contract by ECHL Condors - NHL.com - News
This could truly be the worst 24 hours in NHL history...
Let Beiber play...hopefully someone will severely injure him on the ice and we'll never have to hear from him again.

The players have little to no leverage this time around.
Rules:
-No more than 3 NHL players per roster(For teams in Russia only 1 foreign born player per team, teams outside Russia have no limit on forign born but no more than 3 total)
-Foreign born players must have one of the following criteria(just one, not all):
150 or more games played in the last 3 seasons
Must have had played in the KHL
Memeber of national team for 1 of last 2 international tournaments(Olympics, IIHF World Championships, Junior World Championships)
Winner of Stanley Cup or one of the NHL individual awards
To me it's mainly millionaires vs Billionaires fighting over who gets more money.
I don't want to take sides, they should just say 50-50 split for money and drop the puck.

"My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer and I have my mind... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much, Jon Snow."
On the brighter side, Europe being crazy like this means a high-quality AHL season. To my amazement, Eberle and Ryan Nugent Hopkins have both been assigned to Oklahoma city. So, I can see them play for 20 bucks essentially in November, and meet them easily at the rink. That's pretty cool.
What does this mean for a lot of the 1-way NHL players though? I saw oilers put like 5 minor players on waivers to be sent to OKC, but what about higher-class players like Gagner & Smyth?

Basically if they can't find a european team to go to(other european leagues are looking to keep NHL players from coming and going) they can't do anything but play pickup games.
I believe during the last lockout players grouped together and held semi-practices and scrimmages.
Yeah, I wasn't nearly as into hockey last lockout as I am now, so I didn't pay much attention, but apparently most players that were 30-40 had a hard time coming back after the last lockout.
Also, what do you think the odds of a half NHL season are at least?

Hard to say, with European teams not wanting NHL players into their leagues only to bail at any time, the players might cave pretty quickly.
They can't afford to lose an entire season again, so I'd say right now odds are pretty good there will be some sort of season this year.

still hoping for some sort of season, but I'm still excited for the AHL now. Really hoping it's on tv, but I think I can get like 10 games streamed for 30-60 bucks.
So some European guys have started to migrate home. Vishnovsky has gone to a team in Slovakia, Frolik is rumored to be headed to a Czech team, and Satan changed his number from 81 to 18 on his Slovak team probably to make room for Hossa.
In chicago, Toews has rounded up players from around the league who live in Chicago and are practicing at a local ice arena.
Got to go to some thing at the Abbotsford Heat today. It was incredibly boring, we were told we got to meet players and basically just go around and talk to them. Turns out, they just lined up schools in the stands, and had us listen to the team owner, and the coach talk, and interview random business people on their life story... Waste of time.
Last year Grade 12's at my school got Free Heat tickets though, this year, it's happening again. I've talked to my Principal, and been the only one to reccomend a game, and so it sounds like we'll be going to see the Oklahoma City Barons play the Heat again! Other than that, there is one other game (OKC is in) that I can go to, the next day, hoping to get the best seats to that one. Best seats in the house are 40 bucks, so nothing huge.

Haven't heard any news on the Foreign players from Edmonton, other than Yakupov who flew to Europe. Hemsky, Smid and Petrell, I imagine are going to go back to Europe.

Had to google it.
Hemsky is Heading to Pardubice in the Czech Republic.
Smid also is heading to the Czech to play for Liberec Bili Tygri (man, these are weird names)
No news on Petrell yet, but I imagine he is heading back to Finland.
Yeah, I had used that site last year for the Oiler games. They rarely showed AHL games, but thanks. I imagine they might this year with no NHL.

Lockout is the least of my worries now. Some time back, Daryl Katz said that if Edmonton would not build a new rink for the Oilers, that he would move the team. It was a scary time, but the rink was finally approved by the Mayor (Mandel) and all was good. Suddenly Mandel backed down and cancelled the new Rink. Katz wants to keep the team where it is, but is threatening a move again.
Words cannot describe, I would be crushed. No clue what I'd do... I'd assume I'd just cheer for wherever they moved since it would be the same players, but it wouldn't be the same. Trying to remain optimistic, nothing is said and done yet.

I dunno if Bettman would let them leave. They can't just up and leave without NHL approval, which is why Phoenix isn't in Canada yet.
I hope so, hopefully Bettman can do some good for a change. Besides, I don't think anyone is too fond on letting a profitable team with a giant fanbase leave, not to mention they won 5 cups, lot of history behind the team.
