Re: NHL Thread
lol I had to work with what I was given. I got the first overall pick, so I would only pick at the end of a round and the beginning of the next. So I would go like 10 picks in between every two of mine.

I'm tuning out of the game now haha. Man oh man, I didn't really buy into the whole Stanley Cup hangover thing... but my god the kings are not faring well. Blackhawks are also playing pretty outstanding. Good thing I don't really have a preference with these two teams.
Heading back to Winnipeg and the Sens. Started out watching that game actually since I PVR'ed the Kings & Hawks. Don't get Philly and Pittsburgh here unfortunately.

Re: NHL Thread
Well, well, well. What a game for The Oilers against the Canucks. Absolutely scary first half of the game, and a decent last half of the game. Oilers were down 2-0 in the second until Eberle scored an amazing backhand sharp angle goal on Luongo with 3 seconds left. Hemsky comes back and scores late in the third and sends us to overtime, and the eventual shootout.
Edler shoots, stopped by Dubnyk
Gagner shoots (Bearhawk's favourite :P) and scores with some sick dekes.
Burrows shoots, hesitates, and gets stopped.
Hemsky shoots, crazy dekes as well, 5 hole goal!
Oilers beat the Canucks 3-2.
What a game, both Goalies just stood on their head. I'm happy to see Hemsky play well again, back to full health finally, and staying that way hopefully (knock on wood). Hall, Yakupov, and Nugent-Hopkins were just disastrous tonight though, this isn't the AHL... Seemed like they treated it that way. Hopefully things improve, because honestly, our third line (Smyth-Horcoff-Hartikainen) was our best line tonight.
Also Ben Eager won a fight, but Kassian thought he won, quite comical.

I was kind of worried about this for some Hawks players. Even though some players played during the lockout, be it in the AHL or overseas, most were playing against inferior talent and could get by on their skill alone and develop bad habits. They'll learn really quickly it doesn't fly in the NHL

Yeah, I'm not concerned, I take it as a good thing, most of the team was off tonight, but that means things can only get better as they find their rhythm in this season, right?

Re: NHL Thread
Screw Logan Coture right now. Already scored 2 or 3 goals in the first 12 minutes, off powerplays mostly where he drew them by diving. Now he's continuing to dive. Thought the NHL was supposed to start calling dives as a penalty. Screw this guy, at least tonight.

Well, horrible first period. Last two were all Oilers at least defensively. Yakupov & Schultz got their first goals of their NHL careers, and Hall added another. 6-3 Sharks still. Dang. Feel like coming games can only get better still.

HIGHLIGHTS: Oilers 2, Kings 1 (OT) Video - NHL VideoCenter - Edmonton Oilers
One of the most bizarre games I have seen in a long time! Also one of the best in the last few years! Where to even start. The reffing... In a game that saw 9 Oilers powerplays and probably 14 Kings powerplays, I'm amazed this game stayed at 0-0 and 1-0 for so long. The refs were brutal to both teams. Sending out calls like Instigating with a Visor and being waved out of the faceoff twice. Smid went in the box in the first 10 minutes of the first period, and didn't leave until late in the second.
The really stupid part, one of the worst calls I've ever seen, and I'm not alone in that thought. Nugent-Hopkins finally ties it up at 1-1 when the goal is waved off for a questionable goaltender interference call. Scuderi pushed Gagner into Quick, then Gagner's leg got caught in quick's pad. The refs claimed that yes Gagner was pushed into Quick, but made no effort to get away. Completely wrong, watch the highlights, Gagner was fighting to get away from Quick. I have not seen fans so upset in a long time, myself included.
This whole game just fired everyone up, especially the Oilers, after having at goal waved at 1:05, everyone thought it was over. Then Yakupov tied it sending it to overtime, Gagner finished it off on an overtime powerplay. Some of the craziest celebrations by the oilers, and that rink was loud. Justice served, a ref needs to get fired over that call.
No, I'm not going to be highlighting every game, but this one was worth talking about. Very weird game, but an extremely good finish ignoring the waived goal.
Here is the waived goal in more detail.

Too bad they cut it before the "Refs you suck" chants and garbage being thrown on the ice.

Re: NHL Thread
Dang man, we need you to win these games against Minnesota. xP Kidding, good 6 game win streak. Seriously though, beat Calgary, Vancouver, Colorado and Minnesota as much as possible please :P
Oilers win against the Coyotes. Refs were... Ok, they messed up huge in the third giving Gagner a penalty for tripping which is legitimate, yes. However, Doan gave Horcoff a hit from behind long after the whistle on the same play possibly injuring Horcoff. Probably should have been a 4 on 4. Refs cost Dubnyk a Shutout...
Overtime, Yakupov scores. Now please, give your opinion on this. Yakupov celebrates yes, but I feel like someone told him he has to calm down when he does, because he did. He simply raised his arms, then went around hi-fiving his team, and people are complaining about it. Generally overtime celebrations are a lot crazier, so what's up?
Oh, and some Phoenix player started slugging at Ryan Whitney after Edmonton already won... K then.
Edit: Tv cameras showed it differently. Ok, so Yakupov was screaming, raising his hands, huddled with his team, then hi-fived the rest over the win. I still don't believe that's a big deal, and it was toned down a lot compared to his first 2 celebrations.

Re: NHL Thread
From how you describe it, doesn't sound too bad.
The one where he slid down nearly the entire length of the ice was bad and uncalled for.
The real judge of his antics is the players, if they don't like it someone will take him to task for it. His teammates better warn him.

Re: NHL Thread
Honestly, I don't find the celebrations to be a bad thing, that's not bias either, I won't discredit other teams for celebrating as well. I enjoy it as a fan. I guess that's just me, but it's nice to see the players celebrate goals. Especially clutch goals, overtime goals, etc.. They are a big deal.
The LA one, I think I'd been over, but basically, the refs were horrible, they got the oilers and the kings fired up as it was, and then they wave off a goal on a solid Jonathan Quick with 1:04 left. Everyone thought the game was over, and with good reason. Then a miracle goal happens with 4 seconds left. After all the crap they dealt with, I don't blame Yakupov. It was cool to see. Of course I may be bias, and yeah, maybe it was overdone, but still in my mind, celebrate stuff like that, it's cool to see. It really was a miracle goal.
Just transitioning here, would you classify Gagner + the team celebration as bad after the Overtime winner?
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xURx7-3uuew]Sam Gagner (1) Overtime Game Winner. Los Angeles Kings 1 Edmonton Oilers 2. January 24th 2013. - YouTube[/ame]
I don't know, I just don't see the harm in celebrating. I can't imagine the tying goal or the win being as special if they just scored raised their hands and moved on. Just boring.

Re: NHL Thread
My opinion is it's a little excessive just because we're 7-8 games into the season. In a shortened season no game is really "meaningless" but it's way too early for celebrations that long.

Re: NHL Thread
Fair enough, I can respect the opinion. I'm still personally sticking with the fact that the emotion in hockey adds to it all. I think Yakupov crossed the line, I don't really think Gagner and the team did. It's all circumstantial as well I believe. Meaning it depends what's transpired that's causing the celebration, like I said, they were really fired up because of the refs, and they had a good goal waved off.
Anyways, hopefully you guys aren't the only ones to come to a halt on the win streak tonight. Oilers facing the Sharks again. Here's hoping the Oilers can win it!

I like the celebrations. Adds more to the game. Also Yakupov is young. Guys like him should enjoy moments like that. I thought it was awesome.
Islanders beat the Penguins 4-1 the other day. If we could beat the Devils tonight that'd be amazing.

found a video with opinions. Seems like most people are fine with it. Oilers are trying to bring him back down to Earth for his own good.

NHL Center ice free trial is over. It was nice being able to watch every Oilers game up to this point. Now back to 90% of them being blacked out. Hopefully can scrounge up 50 bucks to buy the rest of Center ice.
Anyways, might watch the Blackhawks tonight, you guys match up well against the Canucks, hopefully tonight is no exception. Northwest team that isn't the Oilers, please beat the Canucks! :P
