Doom

Anyone else get this? I had pretty low expectations of this game being that Doom 3 was a letdown and I was almost certain it would adopt modern-shooter syndrome to the point of just fading away into "Meh" territory for me.

I've only logged 2 and a half hours but I'm thoroughly impressed so far. It's managed to hold enough of what made the originals great from a gameplay aspect. Run and gun gameplay with a chaotic amount of enemies to face. Also bringing back from what I can see the same weapons, plus a few, the 3 keys system and boatloads of secrets of which I've only found a few.

It feels like a very appropriately modernized version of the classics. Of course it has a Bethesda feel with a minor level up feature based off finding the required items in maps. Upgrades like weapon modifiers, suit modifiers, as well as modifiers to your character himself. It's a light touch, which I feel is alright.

I don't tend to get hyped about... anything really, and this was no exception, and you think I, of all people would be excited for this since it's announcement, but the truth is I only just looked at gameplay yesterday and got the vibe that I would enjoy it.

I also haven't paid this much for a game since Left 4 Dead 2 came out, or bought a brand new game for that matter even. At least I can count the games I bought close to launch in my lifetime on one hand. (Sim City DS, Left 4 Dead 2, Smash 4, Doom)

Perhaps the only takeaway (so far) for me is that the music isn't as much of a presence in this game, but when it is it fits in well.

Sucks the Canadian dollar sucks right now. I bought a physical copy as it was going to cost me 79.99 anyways. To all of the muricans here, it's probably only 59.99? Check it out.

Edit: It may just be because I'm taking my time, but right off the get go, the time it takes to complete a level is probably in the 20-60 minute range opposed to Doom Clasic taking, what 15 minutes at most in later levels. Worth noting they feel extremely expansive in comparison.
