I will make the forum/site rules soon. Why should I make them up myself. You use the site; what rules do you think there should be?

No cursing. Even the slightest amount. Not a single word. The little @#%^ thing is questionable. Maybe if it is in a small amount.

We're all grown ups here (or at least trying to be), enough with the "hukt on fonikz wurkd fer me" posts. Minor misspellings are OK, but some of these posts are ridiculous. Spell check my friends, it's a wonderful gift, USE IT!!!! I think from now on, I'm going to respond to those posts with a bunch of question marks. Just my opinion.

I would appreciate lots of feedback in this thread.
A few of the bigger things to sort out.
1. Language. How strict are we about curse words.
1.B. Language in links and games and videos.
IMO - If you are creating the content i.e. creating a new post then it should be rated PG. I think we all know what that means. If you are not creating the content i.e. a video or a quote then we should be a little more slack and take it on a case by case basis. If the video is good and stretches the PG limit then label it as such and allow it. If it blows away the PG limit or is just not very good then don't allow it.
A few things to consider. I would like to have a joke thread but it is hard to find jokes that are both funny and PG. Also I am planning on adding a robust video section. Keeping it strictly PG may be difficult.
I personally find [beep], @#$%, and frak and other butchering of words to be insulting. To me it is a lose-lose situation. The people that want to use any language they want get their words taken away. The people that want to censor the world still know what is being beeped out. They are not being fooled; they know exactly what you tried to say. It is silly. However it is also what is expected.
2. Hate. IMO - None. A couple examples. There are numerous Super Mario Bros hacks that are racist. These types of things will not be added to game menu ever. This is not up for debate. They are obviously stepping over the line. But in the past there have been forum posts saying things like "Stupid Americans". Should we permit this type of statement or censor it?
3. Avatars. Size? I think the current max size is good. Animated? I think not.
4. Sigs. Animated images? How many images? Max image size? How many lines of text? Font size? Show sig to guests? How many times does each sig show up on each page? Currently each users sig shows up once per page and only if the post has more than 100 characters.
5. How many posts per page. Previously it was 10. Now it is 30.
6. Ads. How many and where should they be positioned. I am planning on removing most ads for logged in users.
7. Currently if you submit a bogus score you get 1 infraction point that last 1 month. If you have 5 infraction points then you can not play any games until the points expire.
8. How much time should you have to edit posts? Delete posts?
9. How many PM should you be able to store in your inbox?
10. Should user titles be based on post count. Example. Currently if you have zero posts your title is "non-forum member", 1 post = "first time poster" 2+ posts = "member". Should this be changed to along the lines of 1000 posts = "retro addict".
11. How should we treat "hukt on fonikz wurkd fer me" posts? I say give them infraction points and punish them the same as those that submit bogus scores.
12. Spam on your first post is an automatic IP ban. Not really up for debate. Just a rule.
13. If you reach 5 infraction points and change your user name to avoid punishment, what should happen. I say that is OK but if your second account gets one infraction point then you are IP banned.
14. To maintain your Game Mod title how much work must you do per month. I say 30 items per month. Items include edit descriptions, update screen shots, upload games.
15. Currently if you double post in less than 24 hours then your posts are merged into one. Good?
That should get the ball rolling. If there is no response then I will assume you want mayhem, no rules, anything goes.

Well, these are good rules, but i disagree with number 11. if they make that kind of a post give them a warning. After 3 warnings then you give them 1 infraction point. It make more sense don't you think. And do you want us to give a suggestion for number 8 and 9?

A few of my opinions about Kong's post:
1. On posts, you create it, you can control it. If you can not come up with a different word than a swear/curse word, you might have more growing up to do.
1B. Place a disclaimer on it, so that those who do not want to see it, can avoid it, make it the decision of the person viewing.
2. None. As for the "Stupid American" comments (I know of what and who you are referring to) I personal took nothing of it, it was just something silly that wasn't said in spite.
3. Fine as is (about time I changed mine  )
4. Fine as is (need to update this too)
5. I think this is actually at 40, it's fine.
6. Your site, your choice :kong:
7. Infractions for scoring is fine, maybe make the first one a warning.
8. Keep editing open infinitely. It helps for contests and similar items.
9. If it's a space issue, limit it to 100. If not, leave as is.
10. See #6.
11. You know my opinion on this, treat it like my #7.
12. Next issue.
13 to 15. Fine.

Well the first 4 infractions are kind of like warnings since nothing happens until after the fifth one.
Yes I want feedback on 8 & 9 too. Editing and deleting posts after a long period of time can be confusing. If someone makes a comment and there are 3 pages of responses and then they go back and edit/delete the first comment then the responses might not make sense.
As far as inbox size - it does not matter to me how big it is but I think something realistic should be imposed. The PMs should not be treated like gmail. So basically I would like to know what the most PMs you realistically think your inbox needs to be able to handle.

:@: wanman. Needs to be generic. Once you hit a specific post count your title changes. One rule that would apply for everybody. So we are clear - your title currently says Member. Mine says Administrator. I am just talking about changing the word member.

Oh ok. Number 8 and 9 make it what ever you want, i think nobody would really care. at number 10. When you get to 500 post you should make it "Retro Addict" at 1000 it should be "Forum Abuser" but that's my opinion.

Depends on the intent of the statement. Should be a judgment call.

FYI. This would not eliminate words such as vacuum cleaners and fans, witches, donkeys, private eyes and many more. I am OK with that if you are. Registered members rarely click them. They get banner blindness. So keeping them for registered members is almost pointless. Creates a lose-lose situation.

I agree but I have been told by other successful forum admins that they encourage usefull posts too. Maybe have a spam area that does not count towards this or de-rep pointless posts. Speaking of which the forum games here seem to have died compared to EVG and onVGP.

I disagree. This one isn't up for much debate. My mind is almost 100% made up. I don't like them. They can type right or go somewhere else.

I think 30 is a good minimum. Maybe rewards for hitting a higher number.

I think the max image size should be about the size of a banner. nothing too obtrusive. I also think they should show up on every post and animated images should be okay. Sigs are your way of showing your personality, I don't think they should be restricted too much.

Removing troublesome score games is fine. But it's not really too much to ask of us mods. Golf games stand out on their own and you don't have to.

You just said before you didn't want to rely on judgment calls but deciding which posts are pointless would be a judgment call.
Speaking of which the forum games here seem to have died compared to EVG and onVGP.

:@: bird. I would like to offer incentives to people that make donations. I thought of going as far as removing save states for non-paying members or disabling sound and large screens. Instead of taking away though I would like to give and I am short on ideas for that.
I am looking for ideas like paying members can have animated avatars only something more cool than that.

I am looking for little add ons to give to people that make donations. This would be more along the lines of things that only the hard core RU fans would be interested in. More along the lines of if you donate $5 a month then you can have all the features of the old Token Center but without the tokens.
It is not important. Let's get back on to the main topic - new rules.
