This what I remenber, never got far but Ill give what clues I can. I loved this game years ago and want to find it again.
Okay here are what facts I remenber.
Had 3-4 floopy disks...
was 2-D
set in a forest.
You have a sword looking for items
only color I remember is green.
I know My clues are all very vague, but I remember playing it all the time as a kid.

It's true it could fit the description of King's Quest I, but it could be some others as well. Do you remember if you had to avoid Ogres or meet any fairy tale characters?
King's Quest is a series of games originally designed for a PC. We only have two of them online. But "getting past the first forest" doesn't sound right. You could normally freely roam around in them.
No. but that reminded me to request Fatal Labyrinth.. lol I wish the game I was thinking about had more story.. or that I remembered it better.. Dang it.. im sorry im not being much help...
All of the graphics were green^^ and different shades of green. IT was a 2d platformer Hack and slash game that had you exploreing differente areas, defeating enemeies, going up levels, and picking up items. but like I said I only played the first area. The computer was Very old and had the ancient style of Graphics card.
no kidding.. Im running around sites like a mad man trying to find out what this dam game is.. only because it was that fun and frustrating.. I never got past the first levels, and want to see if I have gotten good enough to beat it.. IT smy luck though, I always find games too late, and by the time I want them, the games are insanely hard to find, or are insanely expensive.. like Marvel vs capcom 2 new age of heroes.. I got to play it on an arcade machine at Disney world, and had an absolute blast..
Yeah.. now go to a site and look at how crazy prices the price of the games system ports are.. that tends to be my sort of luck with good games.. I find them too late..

it worked on any program that was DOS compatable^^ so if any are on im SO requesting this now..

That's not DOS. That's QBasic. QBasic runs in DOS but it is an additional unknown. Maybe.
Gorillas, Nibbles and QBasic were my first experience to programming. I would make them so if you typed in my name you would get slight advantages so others didn't know I was cheating. Or mess with the so they were really crazy.
im just glad to get that game out of my head for now.. Dos is definatly retro^^ so ill be glad to see it on the site. For all the time I have hurt myself trying to remember Zeliard, 4-18months is really no big deal...
