He should have gone down there on the last Wednesday of the month - welfare cheque issue day.
THEN he would have seen some real activity down there.

I noticed that it got a lot worse down there about the same time that they abolished the Vancouver Port Police.
It makes me go:

Also to make it even worse the local gangs were before that time really big dealers of pot across the line, but now it's safer and more profitable for them to set up meth labs in rental apartments here in town.

Usually they pull a 'Pacific Heights' scenario where a well - dressed front man, likely the dealer, goes in pretending to be the renter and flashes around a big wad of cash in front of the prospective landlord, giving them a false sense of security.

Once the rental agreement is made, the junkies show up by the dozen.
This happened in the apartment directly above me at a building I was renting in, and I could hear them coming and going all day and night.

Cigarette smoke and a sickly sweet odor permeated the building.
One day as I went to use my washroom, there was one of them trying to break into my window.

I gave him a look like
Awwww, come ON! You gotta be joking me!

and he just says:
'Oops, sorry man.'
and turns around and leaves.

Thankfully they weren't there long, and as soon as they left so did all the noise and bull shit.

Yeah but there's a difference between being opposites and bashing something that a person cares about. I'm not saying you have to like everything they like but you shouldn't trash it unless it's obviously a joke.. I dunno maybe I'm just old fashioned or something, seems like common sense stuff to me.

Dude, the Olympics are awesome. I have fond memories of the 08 Olympics. I was moving into my house with my room mate and they were running while we moved all our stuff in. And we stayed up til 4 AM watching gymnastics with our friends and celebrated out indepence.

I just finished watching the entire 'Five Ring Circus', and I have chills.
Before when I said it looked like a cool video I had only watched the first minute or so.
Now, after seeing the whole thing, I am genuinely concerned since I am one of those people they were talking about in the video - low income, disabled, living in a place with low rent.

I can't afford to pay any more rent than I already am and maintain what are considered to be basic necessities for myself and my kids.

I had no idea just how bad things were in terms of the homelessness, really.
The fact that we have mild winters here has always brought people from other places, and I thought that's what I was seeing combined with an increase in junkie population because of the open drug trade down there.

That's the way The Metro likes to report things, anyhow.

You're not allowed to sit or lay down?
You have to sometime, and if you're not eating properly would have to even more.
What if you do?
What will they do with people - are they thinking of work camps?

Look at the situation they laid out in the video, you have a percentage of the population living under legislated poverty (like me) who cannot afford a rent increase.
I read once that we make up 10% here in British Columbia.

By removing affordable housing they are setting people up to become homeless automatically, since the landlords keep a sharp eye for people sharing rent on apartments more than 2 people.

I know a landlord here in town, and he tells me how it's been an increasing problem with 3 or 4 people trying to live in a 1 bedroom apartment.
(British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell's $6/ hour training wage for 3 1/2 months on starting a new job almost ensures it)

He also told me how the other landlords he knew went insane with rent increases a few years ago, and how that would end up hurting people.

I think he was right.
Is this that new world order I have been afraid of?
