Is it really good? I've heard some pretty mixed reactions about it. Some people seem to think some of the stuff is too random and unreliable.

Yes, events are random and unreliable. That's part of the challenge and setting.

Some years winter might come early. Maybe someone contracts the mumps.

It's not completely random and its not like random things happen all the time. My current town was founded 14 game years ago and the only major event that happened was a field had an infestation.

There's an option to turn natural disasters off but where's the fun in that?

I specifically remember someone complaining about the villager AI being unreliable. Like a woodcutter who seems to have everything he needs but will refuse to work for no known reason. That sound familiar or probably just some nub with no idea how to micro manage?

I would imagine all the complaints are from people who were bad at the game or didn't want to take the time to learn the concepts behind it like you should in any strategy simulation.

As for your specific example there are quite a few reasons why a woodcutter would not be chopping wood.
1. The woodcutter was cold.
2. The woodcutter was hungry.
3. There was no available place to store the firewood.
4. There was no available logs to cut.
5. The town had hit it's firewood capacity set by the player.
6. The woodcutter was idling.
7. The woodcutter had no tools.
8. There was a woodcutting area created but no one was assigned the job.
9. There was a woodcutter but there was not a work area built for him.
10. The woodcutter was sick.
11. The work area was filled with firewood and there were no laborers to transport the firewood to the stockpiles.

Maybe a few other reasons as well that I can't think of right now.

Guess I'm getting this when it goes on sale again. I've been watching it for a long while now.

It is a very difficult strat/sim. The difficulty lies not in doing the right thing but in how easy it is to do the wrong thing. It expects the player to learn and understand its systems and to enter with a long term strategy for long term success. It accomplishes all of this without restricting experimentation. There's not one correct strategy but numerous ways to succeed, yet for every successful strategy there are a dozen unsuccessful strategies.

I think you would enjoy it.

Yeah sounds like I would. I'm so tired of strategy games that are mainly just figuring out the optimal way to accomplish the goal, no wiggle room to experiment or mess up.

After hearing mostly favorable reviews, I decided to give Bayonetta 2 a go. I went through the game fairly quickly on 1st Climax, and started a second run on 2nd Climax. I enjoy the weirdness of the story line, and the optional battles on each level has added great replay value. I'd consider it a must own for WiiU fans. The addition of the original Bayonetta is great extra!

Now I'm on to Majora's Mask 3D. First time through the game, and I find myself wondering around looking for side quest more than I usually do in a game.

I've heard the best thing about Majora's Mask by far are the sidequests.

I remember running out of time right before finishing a dungeon and was like "lolnope."

Just not a fan of either the mask system or the time management mechanic.

I finished Alan Wake. Interesting story but wasn't a fan of the protagonist. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Resident Evil 4.

I'm probably dropping Banished. Its a great game but open ended with no goals other than ones you make yourself. I decided I was going to use the Steam achievements as my own goals. Then I found out way too late into the game you can not earn achievements if you've modded your game, even if those mods are only aesthetic in nature.

I've started Amnesia: The Dark Decent. I enjoyed it's sequel Amnesia: The Machine for Pigs so thought I'd give it a go.

Been playing a bunch of Payday 2, very similar to L4D but with even more brain dead opponents.
Very fun if you're playing with friends.

I like it. I wanted to just buy it but no gamestops have it near me, figures. Anyone play the original? I'm wondering why they cut the monster taming thing in the remake. I read some explanation about it not being very important or something but it doesn't make sense to remove content unless there's something wrong with it. Just looking for some insight into the decision. Other than that I gotta say this remake is beautiful.

Been playing TERA since I've had an itch for an online game lately. Having a good enough time.

That being said I finally got my order of Monster Hunter 4U, so that's probably going to be taking up all my time for the next......while.
