When I play a game that's installed the disc doesn't spin and it makes almost no noise. I haven't done a side by side comparison but I don't think my Xbox gets any hotter than my Wii. An uninstalled game makes the system hum and get hot, I assume.

How? To spin the disk you need a motor. A motor generates heat when running, the faster it runs the more heat it makes. If you install to the hard drive you eliminate the need for the disk in most cases, so it only spins when it has to.

Yes but the heat from the motor on the cd is insignificant compared to the heat comming off the cpu and gpu.

Apparently not steven. Like I said my xbox runs quiet and smooth, equal to or better than my Wii. Unless you're saying the Wii runs unreasonably hot even without a disc spinning?
