Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

I believe that falls into the suspension of disbelief category

basically older/more mature readers will just ignore the ridiculousness and enjoy the story for what it is.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

I agree to quit discussing The Dark Knight. I still hate it and I always will hate it, but there's no point in arguing, as we are all strong-minded.

I don't understand why a television set or a or a computer can't work with magic, but a car can, when both require electricity.

I think that the major problem with the Harry Potter series is that too much of the content therein is irrelevant to the story.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

Almost half of the order of the pheonix book was irrelevant.
The reason why the movie was good because they took the irrelevant stuff out.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

In Lord of the Rings they use things that belong in the time. In Harry Potter they are just pretending. Harry Potter has too many useless characters.

I'm no mechanic but I'm pretty sure cars don't need electricity to work. Maybe nowdays they can't run without it but I'm pretty sure Model Ts didn't have headlights and other fancy electrical gizmos. But then again I really have no idea, it just seems wrong.
Either way HP is full of fail and butchered English.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

Electricity is required for the ignition, and the battery contains electricity.

Why don't they use magic-powered trains to go to Hogwarts?

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

I thought that in the Deathly Hallows a lot of the deaths were incredibly irrelevant, such as Lupin, Tonks, that guy with the camera, who's name I can't remeber for the life of me, although muched liked it was usless.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

Most of the Deathly Hallows was just added to make the book longer and was useless. The ending was also pretty lame compared to how they built it up.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

They should have explained Voldemort's death after it occurred. That would have been a twist.

Way to drop all kinds of spoilers in this topic. I don't care about HP but I still think you guys should've known better, next time use spoilers or I'll do it for you.

I don't think it's actually a rule but it's common courtesy. If someone spoiled something I cared about I know I'd be pissed off.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

To quote a personal hero of mine, Randal Graves, "That movie is just a bunch of walking." Sorry, kill me if you guys want. But both of these movies are over rated. I never took the time to read any of the Harry Potter books past the first one. I have read The Hobbit though. Not a fan of this genre though.

Nothing wrong with disliking both movies. I've talked to many people who hate these movies it's certainly not for everyone.

Re: Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings?

To what genre refer you? Is it fantasy as a whole, or simply magical fantasy?
