That's how I got it. I have to force it to update each time I load it, or it loads an older version of the Alpha, 1.2 or so.

In doing so I discovered a decent sized cavern and fully explored it. I've started to stockpile cobblestone, coal, clay, and smelted iron. I also did some initial hunting and made one piece of leather armor when daylight permitted.

I've never once spawned anywhere near coal. I've always had to go a long way to get it. Then I end up building caves and never being able to find my way out.
This is why I play on peaceful mostly, I'd never survive with my lack of coal.

I have at least 10 stacks of coal now, lol. I always find too much of it in caves, but making caves safe from spawning zombies and stuff takes like 150 torches for an average cave.

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
Got a LOT done today.
1. I've mined a passage down to bedrock. From that I've started a massive branch mine. So far I've got 10 diamonds, 8 gold bars and well over 100 stacks of red powder.
2. I've decided on the location of my permanent base. Unfortunatly it's a very long way aways from the mine camp. My area seems to be a vast cluster of large islands. I've built a cobblestone bridge leading from my mine, hopping 4 islands, and finally spiraling up around a sheer cliff to what will be my base. To give you an idea of the length of the bridge it is well over 600 blocks long. I've started lighting the entire bridge with torches every fifth block.
Future goals:
-Complete bridge (85% done)
-Construct base (10% done)
-Turn one island along the bridge into a tree farm
-Minecart tracks along the entire length of the bridge (~4,000 iron required)

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
4,000 iron is a lot. I found about a hundred yesterday which surprised me, you've got to check the natural cave systems often, the one I found was really giving
Sounds like a good bridge, I've got a bit of a bridge system well above the ground going from mountain to mountain. I have islands too, but the one I'm on is gigantic since I have never found the other end of it even. I'm definitely not on one of the worlds with many small islands.

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
Lets see.
-Completed the bridge
-Completed the first level of the base
-Moved the vast majority of my resources to the base
-Flattened the area in front of the base for a wheat farm
-Started deforesting an island to prepare it to become a tree farm. Ironic, I know.
Priorities:
-Finish tree farm
-Add a basement to the base
-Add wheat farm
-Add second and third stories to base
-Minecart tracks (2.5% iron gathered)

Thats awesome! Are those just flaming arrows or something?
And btw, this game no longer works for me unless I have my hardware acceleration turned down, and even then it runs bad for that reason...[COLOR="Silver"]

In my new world I've built a beach, a break tide, a beach house, a branch mine, and a lagoon. I've also deforested about two acres of land via a massive forest fire.
I have two small projects next, a boat launch and a toolshed. Afterwards I've got a pretty big project in line that is a glass dome greenhouse.
Then one major project:
---------- Post added 01-19-2011 at 08:17 PM ---------- Previous post was 01-18-2011 at 05:46 PM ----------
Got the tool shed and boat launch done easily. After a night and a half I've nearly finished the glass dome. Keep in mind that I'm playing on hard mode, all mobs enabled, everything must be mined/crafted.
Took me about 15-20 minecraft days in 2-day cycles. Night of mining coal. Day of foraging sand. Night of forging glass. Day of building dome.
Dome is 25 blocks in diameter and 12 blocks high. I didn't use any programs or online help, just my own calculations. Built the whole thing in dirt as a rough draft. Started with a center point (torch) and marked off a 12 block distance in the four cardinal directions and directly up. Quick math told me that it was 9 blocks at each of the 8 diagonals. Filled in as is and then replaced with glass.
Inside I dug a four-squared grid that were 8x8 blocks at a two block depth. Irrigated it with water on the bottom level and planked it over on the top. Currently planting crops there.
I'll snap some pics.

Is that Lothlorien two posts up? It looks like it's from a video game but the graphics look too good to be LOTR online.

You know what Minecraft needs? Gradient lighting. I know, suspension of disbelief and all, but I just can't help but saying "that's not how light works" after playing Minecraft.

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
Right-o. I don't plan on building the whole damn city ut at least one giant tree with a few buildings attached high up and a suspension bridge or two.
I've already done my calculations and have constructed the top most temp dirt scaffolding. I'll take picsa after the first round of trees grow in.

It can't because of how mob spawn ratios work within the framework. Each block surface is given a light value of between 15 (fire and direct sunlight) to 0 (total darkness). Hostile mobs have a chance of spawning on any valid surface of 8 or lower with the precentage chance increasing as the light value decreases.
It's always nice to know that a torch surface has a light value of 14 and that hostiles have ~1% chance of spawning 6 blocks away from it (less if the torch is placed on the wall.)

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
Here's a pic of my current operation from atop my scaffolding.
Bottom left pool is my lagoon. Middle is my beach house and tool shed. To the right is my break water and beach with a pier sticking off of it. Lighted spot on the far right is just from sand collecting (eventuall a lighthouse.) Mining operation is behind the house.

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
go to run tool. Type %appdata% then go to the .minecraft folder. Find your file that says world1, world2, world3, etc. Post it here in a zip file. If the recipients world slot is taken, they can simply rename the one you have to be in another slot. the recipient just has to place the unzipped folder in their .minecraft's folder.
Unfortunately, if your world is like mine, you can't send it over ru being that it is too big of a file. Unless someone knows how to compress it more, mine is 11 megabytes.

How about they keep the spawn ratio the same to a light source by using an invisible matrix of blocks, then have the visible light be more organic, still stretching the same distance, but not suddenly dropping in brightness.

@Cam, place the zipped file into a folder, then zip it again.

Re: Minecraft: You must play it
You could use Winrar, and compress it with that. Then put the more compressed file into a folder, then zip it so it can be posted as an attachment.
The other option is to simply zip it and upload it to a filehost like mediafire or something.
