Re: Beat a Game Win a Badge
Well maybe I'm just sick of your constant negativity, real or not. Btw it's only fair that I bring it up since you never seem to mind calling me out in public topics when you feel like it. I'm done talking about it here. Just know that nothing in my personal life caused me to say any of this.

Sorry you perceive me that way. Thought you knew me better.
Can we get back to my idea that you trampled on then?

Re: Beat a Game Win a Badge
@ ten. i don't know if you are a lacrosse fan, but syracuse's team, 2 time defending champs got knocked out in the first round of the national tournament today.
concerning the badges.
i think having a badge show up on every post for every game you have beaten is way too extreme. my suggestion is that once you have submitted a screen shot, and it is approved, then it can be listed in a section on your profile page.
if you want it to be out in the open, then have the game completion badge be something like a gold star. if you complete two games, then you get a gold star with a x2 next to it, if you have beaten 25 games, you get a x25 next to it, if people want to see what you have beaten, then they can go to your profile pages.
the criteria is games must be completed in score mode, correct?
i think that is fine, but what you are going to see is a ton of games that can be beaten quickly showing up. i know because i busted out duck tales in about 30 minutes the other day, but really, that could have been done in about 20. you are not going to see a lot of rpg's.
games that have passwords are not allowed correct? this is to ensure completion of the entire game. if that is the case, what about games with warp zones?
games with cheat codes, i.e. konami code are not allowed, correct?
who will be responsible for verifying the screen shots/game criteria?

@Jim: I hadn't heard yet. A shame even though I don't follow it.
@DB: It seemed like we were still discussing it here as well.

Re: Beat a Game Win a Badge
thought about it, and i understand the biggest issue with full mode will be save state reloading. it will cheapen it a little bit, but will allow the completion of more games.
should good endings be the criteria for completion?
i think i saw that someone had beaten super mario world, but shouldn't the full criteria be finishing 96 levels?

No. SMW should be submitted on the player select screen that shows you completed 100%.

One that proves you beat the game? It's not rocket science, if you take a pic of the end boss dieing it should be ok. Or if it has a end game screen that would work too.
|
Been a while since I beat wolfenstein but I'm pretty sure it's just a credit role of the characters (enemies) for the ending. Snes version anyways.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking. A list down by the bio of your post on the left and a badge with a number on it to represent how many you've beaten. People like WB, Tails, davidman, etc. would wind up having 300 badges beside their name other wise.

You know, you could also just create a post with a list of game beaten on it like Sabbs and I have.
Or is that not complicated enough for everyone?
|
I indirectly requested one of these from sabby I believe. Wouldn't mind having one.

Back to the badge Xwhatever number thing. Why not just have a blue star with an X and a number for score mode beaten games and a gold star with an X and a number for score beaten games? RPGs, a lot of them couldn't be done in a sitting.

Isn't the whole award for BEATING the game? Don't get me wrong, the 100% thing makes sense but games like DKC, Mario world, etc. could just have the screen shot of the ending sequence to verify that you beat the game.
HOw about a platinum star for 100% completion of a game?
What about games like doom where you can start right from episode 3?

we have different definitions for beating a game. lets use smw as the example. i think beating bowser means you beat the final boss. i think 100% completion means you beat the game.
there are going to be a ton of questions on a game by game basis. my suggestion is you get a "committee" of preferably 3, or 5 mods, either handpicked or volunteered. all decisions of completion approval, from game criteria (if it has codes, passwords, etc) to approved screenshots should be up to them

Re: Beat a Game Win a Badge
what about wolfenstein? are you required to get 100% of the enemies, secrets and treasure? this would be represented by a perfect score but I think it's highly impossible since there is no way to return to the same level again as well as no way to know how much % you got until level completion. There would be exceptions for stuff like this, right?

Re: Beat a Game Win a Badge
I think you're missing the point cam. The reason we'd have to ask for more in SMW is because the warps make it way to easy. If Wolfenstein has no level cheats or warps then beating the boss should be fine.

You allowed people to use full mode when submitting scores. Whose to say someone comes in, beats the game in full mode with save states/cheats and submits it? It's why I said I'd enable score mode in said games. So I assumed it was allowed.

That's true, but it's still not that easy to finish. Although, I hate farming, some games are still tough to beat regardless.

Bagel, I meant that Cam's idea of using score to judge that you didn't use warps isn't a good idea.

Oh okay. I did misunderstand. I would have to agree with you then. I think games that have the option of showing 100% should be used in most cases, but it should be on a case by case basis.

Here's where I am confused.. you want us to enable all games on the site for scores now? Even if they don't have them?

like i said, each game is going to be a case by case basis.
a score comes in, it is reviewed by one of the mods assigned to this process. if it is an obvious call, then it can be approved, if there is confusion about the title or whether or not the criteria that has been met, then the committee can discuss. when a decision is made, a written record of the criteria should be put down in a thread pertaining to this topic.

no. Kong enabled it so you can submit a screen shot for all games in score mode.
just play the game in score mode and press f12 the score shows up in the new link kong added under your name called my screens. there is no need to enable any scores.
