Screwattack: Top 10 Fighting Games of all time.

It sucks but it's reality. If a game gets little or no attention then it won't be making any best of lists. A good example is Shadowrun for 360. I've been telling people how awesome this game is for years and almost no one has heard of it. As a long time fan of FPS can safely say it's one of the best FPS I've ever played. It will never make a best of fps list for that simple reason, most people never heard of it. It doesn't matter that it's much better than games like MW2 and Halo, it's just not popular enough.

Heh Screwattack people, you should know you cannot make a top 10 fighting games without, at least, one game from SNK's Neo Geo.

I'm a Fatal Fury Special devotee, and The King of Fighters' 97, Samurai Shodown II and Last Blade 2 count as other favorites.

Sorry for the bump, but I just now saw what Enemy Ace posted.
Fatal Fury Special was awesome, though I did prefer Real Bout: Fatal Fury Special to be honest.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves is another favorite from the series, though the lack of plane-shifting made it feel a bit less like Fatal Fury.

The King of Fighters: '98 was better than '97 in my opinion, and I loved Last Blade 2, that game was really awesome. It was like Samurai Shodown, but it adhered to the Meiji era theme much better, I liked the guy with the two-by-four.

Only fighting game I really play is Blazblue. I do remember liking Bloody Roar though.

I find the best 3D fighters to date are T6 BR and TTT2, mainly because of the refined counter mechanics as opposed to prior versions where guarding and different kinds of dashing weren't as fluid. The Tekken 3 versions I like the most are the PSX one and the JAP one where Jin has the glitch twin lancer.

Other 3D fighters have a somewhat more "clunky" feel to them, and although I like playing games like VF5U, SC, and DoA I find them to be signifigantly easier due to the lack of movement. BTW, I do find melee to be an awsome game in its but I'm not sure if it's a fighter game.

Also, I'm a little surprised Persona 4U, AquaPazza, UMvC, SSIV, new Blazeblue aren't listed.

I knew this one would come up eventually. I am a fighting game lover and this is extremely hard for me as there are so many individual games in the different series that it is hard to narrow it down to 1. But, if I have to go off the list presented I would have to vote for Tekken 4 with Marvel vs Capcom 2 coming in second. Guilty Gear is a solid fighter with tons of polish but I never really got into it that much. Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter seemed too similar. I love Killer Instinct but after awhile, "Combo Breaker" gets on your nerves. Super Smash Bros has the innovation as you have all the players on the screen fighting at once but you rarely have that many people around to take it to that level. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter seem like they are just rehashing some of the same mechanics/gameplay. Now, Tekken 3 is good but it doesn't have the polish that Tekken 4 has. I spent many an occasion taking people down with King as very few could get out of the string of moves. Can't end without giving a shout out to King of Fighters 98 as a good and fun fighter.
