To me Otaku is like being called a nerd. In some circles thats horrible...on others not only is it accepted its almost mandatory lol.

I like the blanket term for Otaku since it can really apply to any hobby or field of interest.

Since the words origin is from Japan however I can appreciate how it attaches itself to anime and manga.

Smitty is correct. An otaku is someone who obsesses over a hobby or interest.

I think the best English translation would be geek. Computer geek, movie geek, TV geek, etc...

I just watched an animated movie called Millenium Actress, and all I can say is that if you can handle a highly emotional but very well told story of a Japanese Actresses' lifelong pursuit of the man she loves, then you may enjoy this movie.

It is very well done, in the style of 'Spirited Away'.

Millenium Actress was great..it was a really well produced show with a great story line..

If you liked that then you might like Grave of the Fireflies...its very sad but very good

Do you like the voices better in Japanise or English? Also, whats kind of funny is the Japanise version of DBZ is worse, in the way of more cursing and a sort of inapropriate choice of words, not like its bad. Except Goku's voice, thats bad.

I disagree. I think the Japanese voices are better in all ways other that I don't understand enough to watch without the subtitles. I actually liked it in Spanish. The voices for all the characters was dead on and even had the same energy when screaming. To top it off, it was the OVA version being shown fully uncut and unedited other than commercials of course. The only voice that I liked in English was Vegeta. This guy did a great job.

Original voice acting under original direction, as the show was meant to be seen and heard.
That's always the best.

What's considered acceptable in certain parts of the World is often vastly different than others.
Sailor Moon is a prime example of this.

I have some English episodes and most of the Japanese, and at certain points they seem almost like different series.
Especially where these two are concerned:

Sailors Uranus and Neptune have a lesbian love affair in the Japanese series, and although it isn't openly explicit, it is strongly alluded to many times in the later episodes.

Yeah. In Japan on Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, (Which I know is not Anime) One of the partners is a guy and kisses Mario but America had to take that out.

@Joe- I am not suprised that the Americcan version would take that out.

Bumping this topic. Although it took me like 6 months, I finally finished Death Note

Really great anime, the ending was pretty epic/sad.

Now that Death Note is done with, I'll need to watch a new anime. These are what I have in mind:

Hellsing, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun. I'll probably watch Hellsing first after I get back from vacation but any recommendations are welcomed

And once more again. I've never really watched anime but my girlfriend is a big anime fan and she has introduced me to some of her favourite shows and Panty and Stocking is awesome, what's funnier than two girls who can turn their panties and stockings into wepons in a show filled with bizzare plots and toilet humor!

Basically an originization called Black Ghost kidnaps 9+ humans and transforms them into cyborgs (001 is a baby with telekinetic Powers, 002 has an acceleration not as advanced as 009's and flight, 003 Has a more telekinetic sensing than one and can predict where things are, 004 I believe is the actor, that or 007 I mix them up, 005 is the wildlife strongman, 006 is a chef who can breathe intense flames, 007 or 004 is the guy built with all these ammo in him, 008 is the swimmer who does best in the water, and 009 has speed acceleration with the click of his teeth)

After they escape they are hunted by Black Ghost and eventually get sent other Cyborgs to fight like 0010.

Each cyborg has a story about how they were captured too.

I skimmed through the episode Joz posted and my first impression was Battle of the Planets, because of the artwork, and the Resident Evil movies because of the storyline.
It looks pretty good.
