Oh there are more. Atari 2600 - Elevator Action for example. (The one that just nailed me.)

I could definitely imagine it, I just didn't know of any specific examples.

Meh, I'm not going to argue my personal tastes. I like what I like, dislike what I dislike.
I stand by what I've said. I do not know why the MK series is still so popular, know matter what system it is in. There still seems to be zero depth besides better detailed gore which doesn't impress me at all. Mortal Kombat has always been a lower tiered fighter.
Mortal Kombat sucks and it will only take about 3 hours for most gamers to realize that it's completely shallow and move on to a game with actual game play.

I couldn't agree more about not finding enough depth in MK games, but I think that a majority of gamers see MK as a big series that usually delivers what is expected of it; more flash.
But flash isn't always so bad. It may not be incredibly fun alone, but if you get a few people it may prove entertaining to watch.

That sucks Kong. I wonder if there is any way to have a mod "rewind the tape" so to speak when such an event happens and then submit a new screenshot for the player.
Probably to much extra work for the mods though. I do appreciate when the notes of a game mention grabbing the score before game over.

I seen the latest MK Today, Its really not doing too well, theres sooo many pre-owned copy available already, so the game has gone cheap - a sign that its not so good.

I agree. I'm not saying being shallow is always bad. Sometimes mindless, shallow experiences are great. Hell I have an Onechanbara game for when I want nothing but blood and boobs with my button mashing. I just tend to believe that a lot of people really bought into the hype and are going to regret it. Especially when it sells more than a huge title such as Portal 2.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
I don't think you guys are giving MK enough credit. They always try to add or change stuff from game to game unlike street fighter or tekken. From the sound of it this game it's just well made all around. Online, story, gameplay, graphics, all seem to be of good quality. It got great scores and people seem to still be happy with it after release.
Also depth in a fighting game is hard for a non fan to understand, obviously. If you can't get past the repetitive nature of the fights then you're not gonna get why it's so much fun to play for hours on end.
As an example I know people who literally play the same character for over an hour straight. Personally I can't do that because it's boring but to them it's just as fun as spending hours on an rpg.
Btw part of the anticipation is probably because Midway went bankrupt after the last game, MK vs DC. This new game is made by people involved with Midway but the company is called NetherRealm and owned by Warner Bros(I was gonna type WB but then duh).

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
Why are you even defending this game that you don't even own? I thought you were done with this?
I use to be a large fan of fighting games so I can understand them. Even if I never was into fighters, they're not hard to understand at all. I've never been a fan of racing sims or strategy games but I can understand them. They're video games, not complex formula.
By anticipation you mean hype. I think the vast majority of that was produced by IGN (which owns GameStop and many other video game "news" sites.)

I haven't even played it but I still felt like defending it, because it seems to deserve it. I'm pretty much done discussing it but I wanted to say a little bit more because it seemed like people weren't giving it a fair chance.

Yeah obviously but if you don't find that game type fun then you'll have a hard time understanding why it's so popular. That seems to be the gist of your original vent about this. The simple fact is a large amount of people think it's a great fighting game, that's why it was number 1.

Yeah but besides the usual suspects being paid to give good reviews and build hype there is real hype because it's an MK game, the first to be made after the lackluster MK vs DC and Midway closing it's doors. I think the latter is justifiable hype. It just so happens that the game apparently lived up to the hype.
I don't want to argue about this at all really. All I'm doing is trying to give you reasons why it deserves the number 1 spot. Honestly I think we should all be questioning why games like LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, NBA 2K11 made the top 10. At least MK seeks to change and improve for each installment. These other games just scrape by with pretty much the same thing every time but people eat it up.

I'd rather we lost Just Dance 2 and the Micheal Jackson game.
WB says the Lego game is quite good.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
Well that's unfair really. Sports games are pretty boring for at least half of the gamers out there. Combine that with how they rarely add much from game to game and it doesn't seem that they deserve to be in the top ten, right?
At least the dance games are doing something innovative(assuming both are for Kinect?).
I know the Lego games are usually quality but they're also very light on gameplay and challenge, for older gamers. I've played a few and they all seem to be the same game with a different story.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
I don't like sports sims but I can see the appeal.
The golf one is suppose to be able to really help you with your swing and I think it's the first time Augusta has been in a North American golf game. Augusta being the most famous course in the world.
The only Lego game I've played was Rockband so I can't comment on that.
JD2 and MJ:E are not just the Kinect versions but also the PS3 and Wii versions as well.

Well blame Nintendo for getting tons of casual gamers interested in games I guess. I've heard lots of people gushing about these dances games and most of them wouldn't even know what system Sonic debuted on.

Right.
I think it's good to add more casual gamers into the hobby if the goal is to eventually turn them into core gamers.

Well I find that pretty hypocritical. You can't give MK any credit but you give carbon copy sports games a pass because you're a sports fan. Pretty lame.

To answer the question involving NBA 2k11, I'd say it got on there because a lot of people wanted to play as Michael Jordan, who hadn't been on a game in years

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
@Tenser- well then I don't get it. If you aren't a fan of fighting or sports games then why would you cast such serious doubt on one and not the others? Consider that a hypothetical question, we don't need to go over all this again and end up back here.
@SFF- I understand that but it'd be like releasing a new street fighter game just to add a couple characters. Oh wait, they did do that and it sold well. Oh well I guess.

In an update to my previous problem it looks like instead of a five bedroom, we're getting an eight bedroom house. Wish us luck as they still need to inspect it
