Now now ladies. They're only video games.

There are obviously some exceptions, but like games from Japan more than games from NA. That represents a lot more than Nintendo.
It seems like you see us that way because you like NA games, and I don't.

That's the difference between us. I like GAMES. I don't care who makes them or where they happen to live on the planet.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
You have preferences just as much as any other member here.
There are certain developers that I tend to enjoy more than others. If WayForward makes a game like Thor I'll still take a look at it even though I'm not a fan of the ip as I have yet to play a game of theirs that I thought was bad.
If on the other hand the developer was Ubisoft I'll probably stay away at all costs. I generally do not like their work and/or find it buggy.
You are much more likely to check out a new album from a musician that you like than from one you dislike.
You may like GAMES but you also dislike GAMES. We all have our own tastes. Remember, video games are art now. Art by it's very nature is subjective.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
I really don't care who makes a game. It doesn't matter. All the matters is if the game is good. Your music analogy doesn't work because on average musicians only stay in the one style, gaming usually doesn't.

I think everyone is the same way. I am more likely to play a game made by Atlus than I am a game made by Square-Enix. I've had more good experiences from Atlus games than I have Square-Enix games.

Naturally, I'd probably never check out a new album by Kanye West, as I really dislike him, he is terrible as a musician, and supposedly as a person too.

Nah. I know we all tend to like stuff from certain devs but that only goes so far. I'll check out a game if the dev is a good one but I won't even consider buying it unless it looks good. I don't care if it's Ogre Battle 360, it still has to be good.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
I am not that picky about devs, the game has to look interesting to me, but if I am on the fence about a game, I am more likely to pick it up if it is made by a dev that I like.

Is there something wrong with having a preference for JP games over NA games?

Yeah, you'll miss out on potentially awesome games because you have a built in bias.

Depends on your own opinion of "awesome". What some people think of as awesome, others think of as crap.
If you don't like games in the style of western devs, then chances are you won't be missing out on anything you'd enjoy.

Okay your right, I'm gonna go start buying every COD and Madden in case one of them happens to be a gem.

You do that, but only if DB agrees to start buying every danmaku and dating sim that gets released.

Yeah, because those genres make up the bulk of Japanese games.

You just love making generalizations. All I said was if you go into a potential game purchase with a bias you're gonna miss out. If you wanna act childish and assume I meant you have to buy the worst examples on the market then have fun with that.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
My bias ends at fps's and sports games, these make up the bulk of NA games. On top of that I don't own a 360, so I can't play the Morrowinds, Fables, and Dragon Ages. I would like to try them but I'm not gonna buy a new system for them.

I just picked to genres that happen to be significantly more popular in Japan. Much like how first person shooters and the Madden type games are significantly more popular here.

My analogy works perfectly.
Both have a production studio behind them setting monetary limits, pushing for time frames, and generally funding the projects.
Both are a group effort the vast majority of the time, the dev team and the band.
Both musicians and dev teams usually have a favored genre but stray away through experimentation.
As for where the games are made, generally the genres I heavily favor (Puzzle/Adventure, Action/Adventure, Platform/Adventure, and JRPG) tend to be made by Eastern developers but there are exceptions such as WayForward.

Re: The Venting Board (or more work for the mods)
Either way I'm done venting. The whole point was to tell you guys that you come off as rabid Nintendo fanboys. Do whatever you want with that info.
@steven- you could get those on PC if you really wanted to try them. Out of the three I'd suggest Oblivion. Fable is alright but it's ridiculously easy for anyone with RPG experience. DA is cool too but it's not for everyone. Hard to explain but it's one of those love it or hate it titles.

So your whole point was to tell me I come off as a rabid Nintendo fanboy because I don't like the Mortal Kombat series?
When either of us tried explaining why we didn't understand why MK9 was so popular you just dismissed both of us that we were unobjective and refuse to accept a game not endorsed by Nintendo.
Way to not only hold an illogical train of thought but to completely ignore anything I've said that conflicted with your short-minded view on my tastes in games. Thanks for understanding, buddy.

Not just because of MK, in general. This was just the tipping point for me so to speak.
You may see it as looking for reasons why it's so popular but it came off as looking for any reason to hate on it imo. Maybe I'm wrong but with your history of being so negative about pretty much anything current/next gen it was a logical assumption to make.
Like I said I'm just telling you how I see it. Take that however you want.

I have to side with DB for this argument. Tenser, Demon-Mask, and Cassidy all seem to be missing DB's point.

And now for something completely different.
I hate games that immediately stop showing your score the second you lose your last man so you have to play again to save the score.
(Especially sucks if you were playing for awhile.)

The only one I can think of is Castlevania 3, which ones did you have in mind?
