Re: RU youtube gameplay videos
Well, I managed to make a short video of Super Metroid. Wow, takes up almost 2 gigs, better delete SNES videos after you upload them.

If not then you have to find the name of the sound card and download the driver for it. If you can't figure it out then I might be able to help with Team Viewer.

Nothing. I'm fully updated.

Re: RU youtube gameplay videos
I've finished DKC, haven't uploaded it all yet since I still have under ten views on my last few videos. I had some random guy comment, so I'm getting somewhere now

Unless your videos get embedded somewhere on another website, you shouldn't expect any high view numbers, I have a video that was uploaded on Feb. 1 and it only has 9 views =P.

Seahawk, your secret to high quality was using hardware you purchased instead of software to record right?

The Let's Play thread
After finding out how to record SNES, I decided to do a Let's Play of Super Metroid.

Anyone else think of doing Let's Plays?

Not necessarily. It depends on what game it is.
My videos for Gradius I, II, and III (and Radiant Silvergun) were all played in MAME. I do not use my recording device for MAME. MAME allows you to save input files, similar to how videos are made from Retrouprising's emulators. Creating an .avi file while playing any game is not practical, .avi files are HUGE, and constantly writing the movie to the disk kills performance while you play. I play the game, then play back the input file to dump the movie.
The good first step for getting movies off of emulator programs is to get raw, uncompressed .avi movie dumps, otherwise your movie will be fuzzy and blocky to begin with, and no free encoders in the world will be unable to fix that.
My recording device is used to record movies directly coming off of consoles, i.e. no emulators. These files are also .avi files, but since the game isn't running on my computer I can boost the recording settings to the maximum, and capture every at 30 fps frame using no compression.
Afterwards, all .avi files are processed and edited using my favorite movie editor, VirtualDub, which does not compress your movie at all while editing (unless you tell it to).
After editing, all movies are encoded to .wmv files using Windows Media Encoder, at 1280x720 resolution. This encoder is really good, and it's free. On my computer it takes ~50-60 minutes to encode 10 minutes of video. Your mileage may vary depending on your computer specs.
Then at last the resulting .wmv is uploaded to Youtube.
I would post examples here from my Youtube account but they aren't played from RU (and usually aren't "retro") so I don't know if they would be appropriate for this thread =P.

I posted a video of Mother 3, which is a GBA game, so it should be alright.

You only posted a link to your channel, I meant posting video embeddings in this thread =P.
But while we're at it, here's my channel for whoever is interested.
YouTube - Seahawk0027's Channel
It's not really 'retro' at the moment, except maybe for the demo video posted on my channel front page.

Here is how I do it.
First, right click MAME and hit 'create shortcut'.
Right click the new shortcut and hit 'properties'.
In the box labeled "target", at the end of the string, type:
record new.inp
Click 'ok' to save the changes.
I would also rename the shortcut to something like "mame recording" or something like that so you can record only when you want to.
Now, the first time you play using this shortcut, a new folder will be created in the MAME folder, called 'inp'. Whenever you play using that shortcut, a file called 'new.inp' will be created and saved in this folder. Be careful, because if there is already a file called 'new.inp' there it will be overwritten. Also, make sure you remember what game the input file is for. After playing I would rename it to something else telling what game it is for, in this game lets say you did and changed it to "ddragon.inp".
Now, to dump video, the following steps have to be followed down to the letter, and all things must be typed correctly, or it won't work.
Make another shortcut to the original MAME, call it "mame video" or something like that. Go to its properties. In the target box, after the directory, you must type:
'gamename' -playback 'input file' -aviwrite 'avi file name'
'gamename' is the name of the game as according to MAME (i.e. the name of the folder to ROM set is in). In this case, I think it would be 'doubledr'.
'input file' is whatever you renamed the input file to, following from the example above it would be 'ddragon.inp'.
'avi file name' is whatever you want your .avi file to be called, it can be whatever, just make sure it has ".avi" at the end. For this case, lets call it "ddragon.avi".
So, the final result would look like this.
doubledr -playback ddragon.inp -aviwrite ddragon.avi
It's a long explanation, but I hope it helps. I gave it my best shot. You can also find more info in the config.txt in your docs folder for MAME

My instructions were for running the MAME application directly, and not through ArcadeOX.
You'd probably have an easier time just copying the ROM set from your ArcadeOX storage folder, and using running MAME straight off of your computer.

If you're running Vista or Windows 7, then it's in your user folder,
AppData -> Local -> Temp -> arcadeox -> storage
Make sure you can see hidden folders.

You can theoretically do it from Full Mode but the instructions would be different. Instead of typing and making the shortcuts there are some buttons to press. I forgot what they are but you can find the record buttons from the tab menu.
You can't do it in Score Mode.
