If Ledger had tried to imitate Nicholsons joker people wouldn't be happy either. Just accept that this was a different version of the same character.

Also I disagree about Ledgers joker being dumb, he was just playing dumb. He's a complex character I guess some of you missed that.

He didn't have a point, no real purpose, all he wanted was to see Gotham go down in flames.

But that's not the Joker. The Joker wanted to be a leader, not an "agent of chaos." Ledger's character had nothing to do with the real Joker.

He wasn't trying to be a clone of the comic book and the tv show, I think that the director was going for a more "today" approach, more like a clever mad man than an evil genious.

He wasn't clever. He was just a mad man. I didn't want to see a clone of the comics and the tv show; I just wanted to see a villain who was a true threat to the Batman. This "Joker" was not. He was competely purposeless.

If you didn't like Ledger that's fine, but I think the other actors were pretty good.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I didn't want him to try to emulate Nicholson, but I also didn't want him to try to exactly copy Brandon Lee's Crow either. IMHO, I just think it was wasted potential because Joker is a great and incredibly intelligent crazy in the comics, so to see Ledger playing him as essentially a dumb loser just got to me. I'm just not sure what was supposed to be Jokerish about his portrayal.

Have you guys heard the expression "as dumb as a fox"? That's how I saw the new joker. There is no reason to believe he was stupid or a thug. He was very clever and insane, sounds like the joker to me.

Btw I did like Nicholsons joker a lot but I think it loses points because it was too campy and corny. The new joker was more gritty and real. Too each his own but you guys really can't say his performance was terrible, it wasn't. He did an awesome job and I think he deserves more credit then people here are giving him.

i have to agree. look at some movies ledger has done before if you want to doubt his performance. i think those of you that didn't like his performance are really too unintelligent to rate any actor(actresses) performance in any movie. ledger was one of the rare brilliant actors that unfortunately got caught up in hollywood bs and died way before his time. it's a shame really.

I never said that Ledger was unintelligent. I think he was a fantastic actor. I just don't think the Joker character in TDK was the Joker from the comics (to me).

I still like TDK, and I put it as my fourth favorite in the Batman films (behind Batman, Batman Begins, and Batman Returns).

Definitely to each their own.

I think that Ledger's performance deserves less credit thatn the critics have given him. I was very disappointed in the review of The Dark Knight in the newspaper and on the television. It seems that the corporate media is too biased and not willing to differ.

I didnt think it was that bad and maybe bane and poison ivy or mr. Freeze? I wouldnt mind seeing that. But something tells me that their gonna go with cat woman and the penguin or the riddler.

Pretty sure the director of The Dark Knight said he wants to stay away from the more fantasy characters, like Mr Freeze. He wants to stay with reality more. I wouldn't be surprised to see Catwoman or Penguin next.

Yeah but that would only limit the movies. batman only has but so many villians to go at that would fit the bill of a real character.

Why would anyone want to use the Ventriloquist? He is irritating.

I believe that the Penguin or the Catwoman would not be in any movies anytime soon because they were are done well. The Riddler was not so well done, so he's more of a logical choice. They tried to redo the Joker and Two-Face, and look how bad that was.
