i use wolfmame .152 and i have to use the playback.bat but i have to make sure the inp file is .inp for some reason

I heard there was some website or other where you could play Asteroids Deluxe through Mame, and which automatically saves the inp when you submit to it...

...but maybe it was all a dream.

lol well yeah, there is that, but for other games such as dk2 jumpman returns, which isn't on RU and in general for future reference I'd like to be able to record with some of the newer versions of mame. I'll try .152

Just throwing it out there. Wouldn't it add to the excitement and level of competition if there were bonus points for achieving the top score at a particular game? Example: Now that I just took the top score back on Asteroids Deluxe from TIF, why would he even bother to waste his time trying to top me, when it would only earn him 1 point? Time would be much better spent trying to move up the ladder on other games. Now if you were awarded say an additional 25 points for having the top score, I think it would motivate players to keep shooting for that top spot. Thoughts?

I've had the same kind of thought. I'm 6th on Ms. Pac-Man right now, but the 46,000 between me and the 5th place player is a really hard 46K to get. For just 1 point, it's not worth me having to play 10 more games of Ms. Pac-Man. I think the real incentive is to look at the games you're not placing high on - DK3, Tetris 2 for me and try to get better. If I can jump up 10-15 spots, that's a good amount of points. But, I totally agree with you. Maybe bonus points for Top 3, because for Ms. Pac-Man, there's no way I can get remotely close to 600K, but I could probably work for a week and get the third place score of 315K.

This has been talked about before.

I'm neutral on it, but I can definitely see your point.

I don't think so. Here's why i am not going to bother to try and take it back: As you mentioned, as of now i am in 2nd. The game i got 72k on i ran into an asteroid. I'm sure i could have gotten to the "final showdown" area and id be somewhere around 77-78k but that is speculation. Because of this i do not want to waste the time trying to get that score or better for one position.

I would personally try to beat your score just to beat it and that is all the motivation/incentive i would need. It would be pretty unfair (i.e. as an example) to have someone top in all 30 games and it so happens to beat the team behind them by 1 point.

First is first, second is second. Whether you win a game by 1 or 100 - a win is a win and should have no added benefits other than being a win (or a first place finish).

I think that's a good point, especially for a team event. If one team had 2 or 3 of the top 5 players, they'd be near impossible to beat. For an individual competition, I wouldn't mind seeing some weighted scoring. As for motivation, that's spot on. I think I'll take a short break from IGBY and play me some Springer . . .
