First, counting medals goes directly against the original concept of the modern Olympics. Posting medal counts is good for television and thus good for advertising. Second, I really, really hate commericals during the Olympics. Because the only thing better than winning an Olympic gold is a chicken mcnugget. And just because Home Depot sponsers Olympic athletes with part time jobs means two things. It doesn't make me want to go out of my way for that hardware store just out of my love for the US Olympic team, and if I did, those part time Olympians still wouldn't have a clue which aisle the spray paint is in. I really bet that Michael Phelps and Apolo Ohno are slaming back those footlong subs.

It's possible but even when we lose we win so it's not realistic.
