You should make a small page explaining how you decide that a score is a world record.
|
That will happen eventually but here is the short answer.
Slunk's List
GEMANT's List
Twin Galaxies
MARP
AIVA
KLOV
Arcade History
Classic Arcade Gaming
Arcade Hits
EMUX RECORDY
Guinness Book of World Records
GAMEST Magazine
ARCADIA Magazine
Retro Uprising

what you do in the event that there are no sources

Once we are done compiling our list we will on request do a google search for a score. If no score is found then the RU score will be considered official.

and define what you consider a legitimate score.

Must meet or surpass our rules or at least come close.
Example. We require 95% frames per second. If another record keeping authority allowed 90% we would probably accept that. If they did not monitor FPS at all then we would deny the score. For this reason Youtube and screen shots are not accepted as official records.
Must be judged by someone of recognized authority. Another reason why Youtube videos will not be accepted as records.
Max scores will not count. Games that have reached max score such as Battle Toads and Pac Man will just not have world records.
Must be the same version of the game as ours and with the same settings and rules.
Marathon scores and non-marathon will be treated identically.
Real hardware and emulators will be treated identically.

I also wonder how we resolve conflicts on rules and on different dip switch settings.

Luckily most everybody uses defaults when competing.
If a game has a long established history of competing on non default settings then we may change to accommodate but for the most part only defaults will be accepted.

I found a score on Arcade Hits that looks legit. 1,000,950 by bravocorazon. That beats me by 4,050 points. I'll beat it one day. I missed a 20K point bonus once by just a second so I don't think it should be too hard.
