Re: Walking Dead on AMC
But who says he has to honor it? Hershel is wrong and not thinking clearly because it's his relations in the barn. If anything someone should take over for him so everyone is protected and their survival isn't threatened by a stiff wind.
Btw Shane did respect his rules up until the point where the barn was brought into play. From that point on the situation changed because Hershel knowingly endangered them every minute they were on that land. He's a threat to the group and I hope they either remove him or leave. Compromising with a crazy person will only get them all killed.

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
Rick is the leader and since he thinks they should honor Hershel's rules, the whole group should. After this, I assume Rick/Shane already have control now that the Walkers inside the barn are all dead. Also, who knows how this will affect Hershel next season. He looked pretty decimated at the end of the season finale. I will agree he was a threat to the group, but it was his land. If they don't like his rules, they should move on. To me, the only way the group would be staying is if they followed the rules. If Hershel really was keen on his rules, I'd expect the group to be kicked out pretty quickly.

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
Rick is not the official leader though, it's like an unspoken agreement. You have to remember that before Rick found the group Shane was the point man and he did save them and keep them alive just fine. In fact the argument has been made, by Shane, that he has done more to help the group. Rick has made some hard decisions that ended up getting people killed based on morals from a world without a zombie apocalypse(like going back for Merle despite the city being overrun). Shane is more concerned with the groups safety, a great trait to have in this situation. I tend to agree with Shane when he says that Rick isn't cut out for this kind of world.
It was Hershels land but that doesn't mean much when the world has gone to hell. It's only his land because no one has taken it from him yet. He's condemning them all to death by making them leave and he was risking their lives letting them stay. I think he's worn out the hospitality and he has to account for his mistakes.
Btw in one of the clips it showed them asking where Hershel went. Seems like he takes off after the barn incident, perhaps he'll encounter zombie Otis and blow Shanes secret out of the water?

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
I think Dale already kind of knows about Otis, so something may develop with that.

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
Dale assumes but he doesn't know for sure. Honestly I didn't like that part because the old man would have no way of even guessing that, it's quite a stretch. Just because Shane pointed a gun at Rick and slept with his wife before they knew he was alive is not enough to assume he killed Otis without any other evidence. Just a rant of mine since it bugged me.

I guess Dale assumes Shane is really an evil guy who would do something like that?

I would definitely side with Rick. I can see Shane's prespective to a point, but ultimately he only cares about himself. The case of Otis really showed this.
If the world went to such crap that it was dog eat dog, I would side with the person who tried to inject some humanity. If humans were to lose their humanity and become animals, how is that better than being a zombie? Just my view.

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
I think they made it obvious that Shane cares for more than just himself. He seems to care about the group and anyone who threatens them, including other members of the group, get the horns. He also obviously cares about Carl and his mother despite all the issues.
Putting aside your humanity to survive does not make you an animal or on par with zombies. Think of a real life comparison like a warzone in a war torn country. Are you gonna cross the minefields and enemy territory just to rescue someone who might end up hurting your group(Merle)? If one person is lost are you gonna risk everyone else by staying put in one spot and searching that same enemy territory? In extreme circumstances you have to weigh the options. If you're always gonna choose the "right" thing to do you'll probably end up dead.

I've never seen this show but I want to check it out. Should I watch all the other episodes before the new season? Or. Is it the kind of show that doesn't really matter?

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
It's very much about the story and characters so yeah you should watch the others first if you can. If not it won't be the end of the world(pun intended) but you'll be missing out on a lot of the motivations and intentions of the story.

Re: Walking Dead on AMC
Just to warn you the second season is slower than the first. I still liked it but it's more character development than action. Some people got turned off by it.

AMC.com used to have the old episodes I swear but now I don't see it. If you're really determined there's other sites that have it, though I can't vouch for their reliability.

The second part of the season began a few hours ago. I thought it was kind of meh. The next episode looks to be a lot more promising.

Yeah I was surprised by that scene too. Despite all the other drama going on that was the most tense part of the whole episode. I'm really pleased with how Rick handled it, no drawn out nonsense.
