Yeah, the Jets found some wording in his contract they don't like and are now fighting with the Broncos over it

Too bad they weren't from Mass of they'd have only lost a 2nd round pick and a small fine.

That's a little harsh. Let me guess, you must be a Yankee fan? I could rattle off a hundred worse cities but whatever.

Those are the same uniforms the Nike's errrrrr Ducks have been wearing for a few years now. I think they're ugly. I'm a fan of old school uni's. Single color helmets, plain jerseys and white pants. These new things make the players look like dressed up sissies.

Re: NFL

The Bears only slightly altered their jersey, but I don't like it. They put the numbers on the shoulder instead of the sleeve, and the sleeve is almost all stripes now and it just looks weird

The stripes on the pants are still there, but less noticeable from certain angles

Re: NFL

I meant of combination of dedicated fanbase and winning.

Sure a bunch of people go to Seahawk games...guess what, every single NFL game, everyweek, regardless of where you are sellsout. But you never hear about the rabid Seattle sportsfan. You never hear about a great Seattle sports tradition.

Every player that is there is a great player just waiting to get out or a past their prime that goes there to die.

1 championship in the entire history of city.

What do you expect when the NFL team in Seattle is owned by the guy that was the president of the AV Club in high school?

As far as Cleveland goes, great sports tradition. Passionate fans. They held riots when a popular player left town. If that were to happen in Seattle, no one would notice as they sipped the grande mocca latte and played with their sliderulers. When the original Browns left, the NFL felt compelled to give them another team simply based on the concept of tradition. If the Seahawks left, who outside of Washington State (or inside of Washington State for that matter) would notice?

As for the other cities mentioned, toss out San Diego. It is the closest you can get to paradise on the continental US, so they have better things to do than sports. Toss out Houston because it is Texas and Texas has an identiy completely its own. The entire state views and is fanatical about sports on a level that the rest of the country can't even comprend. You can make a solid arguement about Buffalo, the Bills were unquestionablely one of the best teams of the early 90's, but little success since then making the playoffs only a handful of times between the Bills and Sabers.

And Oakland? Really? Oakland. If the arguement is for Seattle being a great sports town is based on the number of people in the seats for Seahawk games (disregarding the number of people not in the seats for Supersonics ((zero...oops, that team bolted)) and the Mariners), then a real look needs to be taken into the number of people and the type of fans in attendence at Raiders games.

Quote:
That's a little harsh. Let me guess, you must be a Yankee fan? I could rattle off a hundred worse cities but whatever.
A hundred? Ok...go ahead a rattle off a legitamate hundred cities that are worse sports cities. By legitamate, I mean cities where there isn't a big enough market for a professional major sports team to begin with. No one cares if Cheyenne Wyoming, Albany New York, or Little Rock Arkansas have sports teams.

---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ----------

Correction, a hockey team won the Stanley Cup in 1917. Number of people that knew that. Zero.

Re: NFL

I'm not going to be able to change your opinion so I won't even try although I do have to say I don't understand the hate.

If you think going to a Seahawk game is the same as going to any other NFL game then you obviously have never attended a game. As far as sports traditions, maybe you've heard of this thing they do at games called "the wave"? You probably think that was invented in NY. And having the richest owner in all of professional sports isn't really a bad thing. The Sonics left? Does anyone even watch the NBA anymore.

As for Cleveland, I lost all respect for their fans when they cheered when their own player got hurt.

Funny thing is, I'm not even from Seattle but I've watched a lot of different sporting events in a lot of different cities and the experience of going to a Seahawk or Mariners game is about as good as it gets. I wouldn't trade watching one game in Safeco for watching 10 Yankee/Red Sox games. But that's just my opinion.

Re: NFL

I respect your opinion, you are entitled to it. But lets set the record straight on some things.

If the Wave is the greatest contribution to sports that the city of Seattle has to offer, then that is truely laughable. However, you have to prove that the Wave originated in Seattle. I know that it was a big tradition that was done at U of Washington a long time ago, but proving that the Wave was invented in Seattle would be like proving who started the highfive. Tons of claims to inventing the Wave have been made throughout the years, no way to proof it.

The question of who watches the NBA, well, is interesting. The NFL is the undisputed king of sports ratings in the country. That is the an undebatable fact and I think we can agree on it. A comparision of the NBA and MLB is fair, and they stack pretty close in numbers.

Viewership for the NBA Finals and World Series since 2000

Ratings for the 2009 NBA Finals and 2009 World Series

I know these numbers are from 2009, but it is my understand that the trends have held. Slight edges to the NBA aside from the Championships. However, the important trend to watch is who is watching what. Old people watch the MLB, young people watch the NBA. There is no indication that when the young people get old, they will switch, instead, they will keep watching the NBA.

Paul Allen is in fact not the richest owner in American professional sports, that honor belongs to Mikhail Prokhorov, owner of the New Jersey Nets. But wealth of the owners is a mute point, wealth obviously does not translate into success.

At no point in this arguement have I stated any East Coast bias and I'm unsure how my disapproval of Seattle as a sports town automatically means that I'm a New York fan. Seattle itself is a wonderful town and has made a huge impact, particularly in the technology field, culturally, artisically, and musically. I'm glad that you enjoy the enviroment of Safeco field and where ever the Seahawks play. For my two cents, the best park in the country is Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

However, when it comes to sports, what I traditional think about in regards to Seattle is the Kingdome implosion and Bo Jackson lighting up Bosworth and the Seahawks for 200 +

Re: NFL

Greg Williams is likely never coaching in the NFL again.

Audio has emerged this year of a speech he gave in a meeting before the Saints played the 49ers last year.

Amongst his comments were to hit players in the head as much as possible, telling the defense to hit Crabtree in his ACL so he becomes human, saying WR #10 is coming off a concussion so they need to test him.

Some of the things are taken out of context by the media, but naming names and where to hit them is way over the line
