Gentlemen, it's October 20th and TF2's Halloween mode will coming
to us soon (Within 10 days). That being said, we'll have 2 weeks
to grab all the Halloween goodies that we can before the event
ends.
Mann Manor:
I bring this up because I was wondering if you guys would be
interesting in pooling our resources for a particular Halloween
Hat, the Saxton Hale mask.
To obtain it, you have to collect all nine of the class masks and
craft them together. But to get the 9 masks, you have to collect
the almighty Haunted Halloween Gift, which spawns on the
Halloween Map Mann Manor every five minutes. Once it spawns it
become a race to find it and the first to find it gets to keep
it (expect Scout rushes). But this is only on servers with 10
players playing.
IMPORTANT: Gifts only spawn of official Valve servers, so you
have to use the "Start Search" option to get the right servers.
Mann Manor (AKA the Halloween Version of Mountain Lab):
Haunted Halloween Gift:
Gift Locations:
Here's a video demonstrating what I said (Note the dates are to
last years Halloween event):
With presents spawning every 5 minutes, and there being 60
minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, and 14 days in two weeks,
you have 4032 times to reach the gift!
But that isn't all there is this coming Halloween!
Also on Mann Manor, there is the dangerous Halloween Boss, the
Horseless Headless Horsemen, who will run around the map with his
massive axe and instantly kill anyone in his path:
But if you were able to defeat him, you will obtain his head!
Which you can proudly wear as your own hat. However, killing him
is rather dangerous, as he is faster than Scouts and kills you
instantly. The HHH goes around searching for enemies to kill,
almost always picking the nearest player and marking them as
"It". When you're marked it, it will display on your screen and
he will relentlessly chase you until you either die, evade him
for 30 seconds, enter a spawn, or hit an enemy player with a
melee weapon.
This makes playing Heavy or Engineer rather difficult on
Halloween, as he can come in and you won't have any major
self-defense against him. He even takes down sentries in one hit.
Spies don't get it easy either, as he knows where you are when
you're invisible, so the Dead Ringer doesn't help.
But like the Gifts, he only spawns when there are 10 players on
the server, and has health based on the amount of players:
He also will scare players which will make them helpless for a
short period of time (But this can be prevented with the HHH Hat)
That being said, if you kill the HHH with a Melee weapon, you get
the extra special Haunted Scrap Metal. With it, you can craft
either the HHH's Giant Axe, or a Skull hat.
Finally, there are Pumpkin bombs that can be shot at and cause
massive damage to nearby players. (Making Sniping a lot more
interesting).
But there's still more to Halloween!
If Attack/Defend isn't for you, there's Eyeaduct a KotH map that
is just as exciting.
Eyeaduct:
Much like Mann Manor, Eyeaduct is based on a current map in TF2,
Viaduct, with a bunch of added features.
Instead of a giant madman with an axe, you get to fight
Monoculous, or Demoman's missing eyeball.
Much like the HHH, Mono only appears when 10 people are playing,
and can cause massive damage to any player. Monoculous is a giant
pest, as he will repeatedly shoot critical rockets at the nearest
player and easily kill any low health class.
Monoculus also teleports, while he will sit in one place from
time to time, he will teleport to another place on the map and
continue his missile barrage. When he teleports, he leaves a
wormhole for players to enter, which takes them to the
underworld. In the underworld, you will take small damage
continuously over time, much like being on fire. Players have to
run on a short path (where enemies can shoot you from behind) and
into an exit portal. Once you get out, you gain uber, an increase
in speed, and all crits, which you can use to stun Mono.
As a result, he makes playing Engineer and Sniper a pain, as you
often have to stay in place as those classes and he can randomly
show up right behind you.
Once you defeat Monoculus, you get a hat of the giant eyeball.
But if you were lucky to be near Mono when he dies, you can enter
a wormhole to Loot Island, where you can obtain the Bombinomicon,
a badge that lets you explode upon your demise.
Here's a video demonstrating this:
Much like Mann Manor, there are Haunted Halloween Gifts to be
obtained, but instead of collecting hats for the sake of crafting
another one. On Eyeaduct, you get Halloween Costumes for each of
the classes (One Hat and Two Miscs) for a total of 27 costume
pieces to collect. Some having a cool effect on the class:
All the costumes:

And like Mann Manor, you have to have 10 players to have the
gifts spawn. But there's a twist, if you get a gift in the
underworld, your gift will be "Haunted" in quality (like Unusual
Hats), and they are worth more then their regular counterparts.
Gift Spawn Locations:
Also, when a team caps the point, 2 to 4 ghosts will spawn and
wonder the map, which will scare players, leaving them helpless.
Finally, like Mann Manor, there are still Pumpkin Bombs.
And the third map is...
Harvest Event:
Of the three it's the least interesting, it's almost the same as
regular harvest aside from the lone ghost that wonders around the
area.
He also can scare people, but has a larger radius than the ghosts
on Eyeaduct, making corridors a pain when he's around.
For confrontational classes like the Scout, Pyro, and Spy; he can
be quite the problem if you don't check your surroundings.
The map also has the pumpkin bombs, but that's all there is to
Harvest Event, not much different at all from the regular version.
All that leaves is what Valve will bring us this Halloween,
they're asked people to submit Halloween Themed items to the
Steam Workshop, and players to vote on which they like the most:
Steam Workshop :: Team Fortress 2
But with the recent MvM mode, who knows what we'll see.
So when the time comes, good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.
-> If any of you want to work together, we should get started
before the event starts and plan ahead. I'd gladly help if
anyone's up to doing it.
