Hitler was such a evil force in history, I can see why he would be put in. Many things enter the consciousness of popular culture whether fictional or historical.
Different, perspective, but I think it's the same reason why you can beat satan/the devil in some games. I have to admit it was fun laying the smack down on big D in Dante's Inferno.
I know that's a different case then Hitler, but I think it's along the same lines.
People like to beat up famous villians.
|
Yup, that is exactly the point, and the reason these forces should be utilized more in gaming.

I know right? Hitler is so played out. He was a pansy hiding behind some real scary people. They should make a fighting game based on WWII. I'd love to do a fatality on Mengle while using Churchill or Stalin. Damn I started typing this as a joke but I think it should be a real game, I'd buy it.

Imagine if a game let you roll over hitlers neck with Roosevelt's wheel chair? Epic!

I figured that but many bad guys do that. Hitler is in his own category because of how iconic he is and how evil he was. Wily is just a bumbling mad scientist.

I honestly thought people might get offended by my new game idea. Good to see people can still take a joke(although I still think it's a good idea).

It would be awesome. That could be the bonus round in a new Meal of Honor game or something. You could even get a chair achievement.

Is that a competitive eating game? If so what does it have to do with WW2 or driving over Hitlers neck in a wheelchair? Also, there's nothing honorable about overeating, have some self respect.

Man! I must have been hungry last night too. Sorry, maybe it should have an eating game set in WWII called Meals on Wheels. That way Roosevelt and eating could be included.

Re: Hitler in Video Games
Someone said something about the German Nazi Party being the most evil thing ever?
Well, I read somewhere that when the German SS officers went to visit their Japanese counterparts, {who had just then recently invaded China}, they were shocked and sickened by the things those Japanese soldiers had done to their Chinese prisoners.
What the hell did they do that would have shocked the masters of the death camps?
It must have been some real Holy Crusades/ Spanish Inquisition/ Hellraiser type stuff to shock and sicken those guys.

Anyways, I recently acquired Call of Duty: Big Red One and am going after Field Marshal Rommel in Africa.
I wonder if I'll get to take a shot at Hitler himself by the end of the game?

How does a Call of Duty game based around the African campaign work? Easily my favorite part of the war but it seems like it would be limited to mostly tanks. It makes as much sense as a Polish campaign.

Was that a rhetorical question JG? I'm surprised you never heard about this terrible part of history.
NSFW- it's pretty disturbing stuff
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre"]Nanking Massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
From all accounts this was one of the worst examples of evil in recent history. The holocaust was the worst imo for the sheer scope of it but this was a concentrated slaughter that the Japanese apparently enjoyed.

The African section of the game is only one level along the way
as you follow the path of the BIG RED ONE
{they do the Indiana Jones thing with the map}
Yep.
Mostly tanks.
{lots of fun, and there's this part where you come across like 7 Panzers guarding a base ...}
Then, you lose the tanks and have to face the Panzers with a 50mm Browning, and a cannon of some kind. {80mm?}
I've played Medal of Honor: Frontline and Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, and this game is on par if not better than those.
I also noticed the theme sounds very much like that of MOH: Frontline.
And DB, thanks for the refresher on history there.
There's a documentary:
Innocents Betrayed {yes, that is an intentional innocen ts}
which deals mainly with the subject of firearms control, and also tells of many such massacres which took place at the hands of the peoples' own governments.
In their respective countries. Once they had been disarmed, that is
Sadly it seems there have been many terrible losses of life in recent history in the name of some mad conquest for wealth, resources, or power.

The numbers of dead count for little because the magnitude of the crime is always the same.
It is for these reasons that I believe war should exist ONLY in video games.

Nanking was a massacre of Chinese by invading Japanese. I'm not sure how that fits into what you're saying besides the being disarmed thing, it certainly wasn't done by their own government.

Re: Hitler in Video Games
Only a very small portion of Nazi soldiers were doing anything that would constitute war crimes. I would guess much less than 0.01%. Which as far as the soldier level of a war goes is probably really close to the same % in any other army. Most Nazis were just typical soldiers.
I think it is very easy and common for the average soldier to be shocked and sickened by what the other side is doing no matter who it is. I am shocked that people are shocked that soldiers do horrible things. Honestly what did you expect would happen if 18 year olds were convinced it is OK to kill because the other side is some how less human or righteous than their side.

No, I wasn't referring to that incident when I was talking about Innocents Betrayed; sorry that it came out looking that way and I should elaborate:
I understand that the awful event itself was an attack on China by Imperial Japan.
I saw a similarity between The Nanking Massacre and the incidents described in the video, and thought it would be a good time to bring it up in case anyone was interested.
I stopped at putting a link up to part 1 because it's a really disturbing documentary.

Yes, this is a really good point, Kong.
I think not only the mind - set of the young people they send to war, but also the threat of punishment for insubordination probably had a lot to do with many things done during war time.
I'm not trying to excuse anything by this.

Oh man, they need a game that expands on that. Defending Cairo from the Panzerkorps would be epic.
Less Bradley, more early Montgomery.

This game was made from the American military's point of view.
Perhaps there's a UK company making WW2 games that would have General Montgomery's forces in it.
{I would want it}
There are at least 5 sub - levels in the game where you are fighting against Rommel's armored division, with parts in between where you are a gunner aboard the Liberator {bomber}, and yet other land based sections where you man the twin 50's to keep the Luftwaffe from destroying vital supplies.
and remember that part I was talking about with 7 Panzers?
It's nothing, man, nothing compared to the part I played last night.
{I just got the game a little while ago, and so am still working my way through}
Definitely a good Call of Duty, and challenging as well.
My only complaint is that you can't turn off the music, but there isn't much anyways.
