PSP.
The villans are much harder, because only two villans fight one another: Jecht and the Emperor.

DB, I'm surprised you voted for Squall with your distaste for the game.

Re: Squall Leonhart: Awesome or Not?
Reality is, if you look past his FF8 personality (not Kingdom Hearts or other spin-offs)
he has an awesome arsonal, and despite having a loser of a father, still is on top.

Re: Squall Leonhart: Awesome or Not?
Hey I don't base things on personalities, just on their abilities. (In case you didn't notice.)
But if I had to chose a person based on character it would easily be Zack Fair,
no Final Fantasy character comes close to his compasionate personality.
Maybe Laguna, but he's a total clutz.

I guess it's more like I conceded that many other people think he's awesome. I should've voted not but I feel I owe Squall a vote for the trash I be talkin'.

Re: Squall Leonhart: Awesome or Not?
Squall is like most RPG heroes. Hes the 'good guy' and most good guys in rpg games, specifically main character hero types, gain some rediculus powers later on. Im not sure if this is true for ff8, but I kno that in FF7, if you have cloud, he has to be in your party at all times.. as a result, you end up with one character who will ALWAYS be the strongest character, while tryign to help other characters catch up.
Epic boss batle begins: first attack whipes out msot of the party, Cloud takes 0 damage.. My reaction: o.o
I haven't voted in the poll, nor have I played very far in his game, WHEN I had access to it.. Nor have I played dissidia, so this is all the reaction I have for him. In Kh he was awesome. FF8 I never got attached to him due to not playing the game for very long.
(and im not going to vote a character as awesome just due to some cameo rolls and a boss fight in a few games..)

Re: Squall Leonhart: Awesome or Not?
I did play the majority of FF8 and Squall isn't that bad really. When it comes to why I dislike the game he's only a minor consideration. My main beef was the junctioning system. I thought it sucked hard and ruined the experience.

Re: Squall Leonhart: Awesome or Not?
Squall has his detractors and I'm not one of them. I feel Squall is a good character with just a few traits that people hate. I couldn't tell you what exactly since I didn't get too far in the game.

Re: Squall Leonhart: Awesome or Not?
Hey, OP, thanks for posting these facts about the guy (even the Dissidia ones - and on that note, I'm really glad they stayed true to the source material and let what was evident to be his top priority in life [combat] shine in his story interactions). I voted him as an awesome hero, and I would do so if the poll was either about his sheer combative skills, or his personality. I know that's a controversial thought, so I'll explain it:
If you examine his actions logically and objectively you'll find that in many senses, he was a terrifically rational good guy. I know a lot of people call him "emo" - which was [a poorly defined colloquial term and was] basically an idea of a whiner, complainer, and someone who was too negatively emotional - but Squall actually didn't complain or voice his emotions much at all. Even his thoughts weren't all "woe is me, this sucks, he's so mean, wah wah." He turned his experience with Seifer into a good thing, saying he felt like he could take on anything even it if fought dirty, thanks to Seifer. Though Squall would call stupid actions stupid, like Laguna's awkward klutzy episodes. (I like Laguna, but when he acted like a moron, Squall reasonably called it like it was. And it's annoying for some ppl to have to watch stuff like that the way Ellone would make them, so it's understandable that someone would vent [the truth]) And if you wanted to call him away from a chick who asked him to dance at his one an only Graduation Ceremony, whom he was actually interested in, (like Quistis did) so that you can personally chat with him about your problems and depressing stuff that he knows he can't do anything about, he'll tell you "go talk to a wall." I mean, it's kind of inconsiderate to use your instructor's privileges to force someone away from their activities so that you can unload your issues on them, isn't it?
People also call him a "jerk," but a jerk is someone who picks problems with people (like Seifer), not someone who minds his own business or wants to be left alone. Btw, if you need help, or accidentally bump into him, his first choice (as per the game) is actually to help you. Take time out of his day to bring you to guidance terminal and digitally give you a tour of the academy (isn't that right, Selphie). Someone's in danger on the road in the Dollet's SeeD exam? First guy to rush up and grab the victim's hand to help him is Squall. Again, he's helpful dude and unarguably a good guy, but people just don't like how "unfriendly" he was, it usually seems. And that's one virtue he did not have - he was not "friendly in an outgoing way." Didn't shake Zell's hand when he...wiped it off on his pants after planting his hands on the hall floor after cutting a couple flips... Ahem, but yeah, he could have been way more friendly - but I don't demand that of someone for me to like them, and won't call them inaccurate insults if they're not nice enough for me. You have the right to be introverted - that's okay. More importantly, imo, he was always trying to do the right thing, honor contracts, assess situations properly. That was awesome. He was just, logical, and dedicated to being powerful enough to make a positive difference in the world. And those are points galore - in his world, when individual ppl can amass the kind of power that a sorceress or a strong soldier can, it is a fantastically efficient idea to prioritize attaining high levels of power if you're in the war business. And instead of hanging out and socializing and being a more well-rounded guy, Squall apparently trained much of his time. More than any of his 5 teammates, and Quistis made a comment about how above the cut he was in the Fire Cave Exam, commenting that he and Seifer were truly in a league of their own. I'm sorry the guy kind of lost his head over Rinoa after she went comatose (boy, he loved that girl), but even still, that dedicated dude was a fighter to the core - a lion-hearted, coldly calculating, determined beast of balanced swordsman and his efforts proved worthwhile. That powerrrr! He was dedicated to being unstoppable (gave the finger to bloody Time Compression!), and his vicious attacks and style said more about his psychology than he ever voiced. Vicious, man - he used the blade, infused energy/explosions to his physical attacks, could use any magic masterfully, continued to do so even in Dissidia, led his team with effective strategies even though he never wanted to rule over/be better than people, knew that "you're born alone, you die alone, and that a wise person depends most on him/herself," learned that allies/friends are still a great thing to have and appreciate in life... I loved it. Still love him - I rock that Sleeping Lion keyblade on my car keys. Well that's my long-winded opinion, everyone has a right to their own. I love dem facts, again, though. :]
