Yeah Xbox 4life right!?

I don't think this will be a bad thing for either company since they have the money to waste if it fails. It certainly won't kill sony or microsoft.
I doubt it will catch on unless it's really well done, which seems unlikely. If they manage to make it work well with FPSs microsoft could make some serious money though.

The only other issue is getting lazy 360/ps3 gamers to move thier arms around when they play.

I still only use my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player (the quality of that is good). I still haven't taken the game that came with the system out of the shrink wrap.

re: Kinect

This guy is working on Project Natal. If he can do this kind of stuff with the Wii, Natal should be pretty awesome.

re: Kinect

i saw that tech a long time ago, but i havent seen anywhere that suggests its incorperated into natal. it will still suck anyway.

ATTENTION POTENTIAL PS3 BUYERS:
fungusman was telling me the new ps3 slim will no longer support homebrew or emulators, if you plan on getting one, you might want to consider getting the older model, they are apparently going fast

re: Kinect

This is going to be great for disabled or handicapped gamers. I'm really happy for this. Also, for game developers this is an amazing first step, John Carmack says it best (1:28 in the video) :
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmRrLgljYG0"]YouTube - John Carmack talking about Sixense TrueMotion at Quakecon 2009[/ame]

As for the home market, it might have a few 1st party titles, but 3rd party developers may not produce good content for it.

I think it's great technology

re: Kinect

Microsoft’s belated disclosure of the space requirements for its innovative new Project Natal interface have struck many as being physically impractical for all but the large living room, with the controller demanding a “clear” space 4m (13 feet) deep.

The device (an Xbox 360 peripheral which uses sensors to interpret bodily movement) is said to require an area significantly larger than most other gaming devices, and more pressingly, larger than many homes or gaming areas can feasibly provide:

Quote:
To be precise, you’ll want to clear an area extending at least 4 meters (a little more than 13 feet) away from the television.

That’s the back edge of the space to be taken into account by the Natal sensors.

In terms of width and height, the field of vision naturally expands as it moves from the Natal device to that back edge, ending up a little more than 4 meters wide and 2.7 meters high (about 8 feet, 10 inches).

That is me...it took me about 20 seconds to realize that I didn't have to swing the controller in wii sports, just flick the wrist.

Have I missed something? Did E3 start already?

If that's true then it sucks but MS says it is not true.

The comments recently about the play space for 'Project Natal' were misinterpreted. It is true that the 'Project Natal' sensor reads the configuration of your room and adjusts play space, as appropriate. We know that living rooms come in all shapes and sizes, and have conducted numerous play tests to ensure everyone will be able to jump off the couch and into the fun when 'Project Natal' launches globally this holiday.

Wouldn't touch it. I actually like having a controller with buttons and no further interaction with the game world. I like a game that brings me into the world through a good story, fluid controls and customization, not through making me swing my arms around and requiring me to re-decorate my living room to have a clear area or whatever.

Quote:
Microsoft has claimed their previous words were “misinterpreted” and that Natal will adapt to “all sizes” of room.

Considering that the system itself has physical minimum and maximum limits to sensor range and limited sensitivity, this rather reeks of damage control, as plainly the system has limits and an optimal play area whether Microsoft cares to tell consumers about them or not.
Kong beat me to it.

re: Kinect

I'm not going to be so quick to announce that the Natal is an automatic fail, but I will not be shocked if the overall outcry is that it does not meet expectations. 2010 is a far cry from 1989 when the Power Glove was released. I think most who used the Power Glove have forgiven it because we understand that the technology had not advanced enough for proper use in the concept. The result was that the Power Glove was a cluncky pos. 20 years later, the consumer not only expects a product that will work well, but a product that will work with precision. If waving your arms and legs like a drugged monkey at a rave party (as demonstrated in the video) is the best the Natal has to offer, then I think that it will fall well short of the expectation that is placed on it.

There's plenty of room they set aside there. It must be nice for a magazine publishing's office to be so open and accomodating.

I don't know how well this will go. If it is made to be optional for playing games while still having a physical controller as the primary then this would be great.
