Answer to both: because you can't rock your thumb to jump while holding down run.

You also can't scrape your nails across a button back and forth really fast on a keyboard either. It's easier to circle a D-pad as well.

I think I found what stick I want to use BUT its 140.00

Ill probably end up getting one thats about 100.00

Or I could just settle for one thats12.50 to 25.00 on amazon

I was reading up on the x controler thing you download to make your controlers work and was reading some people were having some issues with them. Is there anything I should watch out for during set up or game play?

Once I get a controller I plan on hitting the arcade hard!

I use either an Xbox 360 controller or a wireless Logitech PS2 controller using Xpadder or Pinnacle Profiler.

The only thing I use the keyboard for is Flash games. I just can't get that Retro feeling using the keyboard for classic systems games somehow. To each their own though.

1. Xpadder will not work with Coin-Op or any of the ArcadeOX score modes. But you don't need it for them because they will recognize your controller. Just push tab while playing one of them and you can set up your controller.

2. The other ArcadeOX Full Mode for the other systems can use Xpadder. But for most of them you do not HAVE to use Xpadder because they will detect the controller on their own.

3. For Java and Flash games the only way to use a controller is with something like Xpadder.

So in other words, once you have a controller you can use it on any of our games but you will have to set most of them up one system/play mode at a time.

Recommended controllers.
Retrozone - Nintendo game pads for your PC. (requires )

X-Arcade - Arcade style.

If you are going to spend over $100 then check out the X-Arcade.

So many choices lol, Thanks for the info man I appreciate it. I think Im going to get the sf4 game stick. It has the Hori stick and real senwa buttons on it so I wont have to mod the stick later. I wouldnt mind having a d pad for arcade games but I know for fighting games my thumb will wear out

And thanks for the info on the differnt game modes. I was starting to wonder what the toggle button was for lol

It may be a week or to before I get the stick. I have to wait until I get paid again to get it.

Toggle makes the screen open in a pop up window. After clicking it you can usually go full screen by pressing Alt+Enter. Try it.

Well I had to break down and get the 24.99 controller. I cant use my keyboard at all on a lot of games lol. SO I got the Logitech dual action controller. Im about to set up the xpader thing and see if it works. Wish me luck!

The more games I play on here Im really starting to see what your talking about. So far the only games I can get to work with my conroller are Genesis games. I bought X padder but I havent really had to use it yet. I did have to use my keyboard for some of the arcade games Im starting to run into and would prefer to use my controller instead. Hopefully after a little more tweeking I'll be able to set it up so I can use it on almost all of the games I play

For arcade games just press tab, selct configure controls. select the control you want to change. Press enter. Press the button on the controller that you want to map to it.

If you want the info to save so that it is the same for every game then press escape until the game closes. Otherwise it will reset to the defaults next time you play.

I just play with my keyboard when I don't have access to my Logitech Dual-analog gamepad. that cheap little thing has sensitive analog sticks and a decent d-pad and buttons. It did good playing on ZDoom until I got my 360 controller working, but i still use it for playing other old-school games here.

Lol....yeah I paid for it. I didn't realize you can get it for free in the FAQ section. I don't mind to much though. It was only 15.00 and I'd rather give my cash to the creator of the program directly instead of some company.

It was originally freeware. He started charging for it recently. The version available in the FAQs is the freeware version. I don't think there is any significant difference between the two. His page says there has been optimized for running on Windows XP and improved language support.
