He in no way claimed to have played it. If I said "Ninja Gaiden III is the best game ever? No way!" does it mean I've played it before?

None of these games deserve to be best game ever.....come on people.....where is Unreal.....where is Dues Ex.....where is Ken Griffey presents Major League Baseball.....where is Street Fighter.....where is Super Mario Bros. 3.....where is Megaman.....where is Dragon Warrior? All of these games defined their genre and they are no where to be found here.....when you get a real poll going, inform me.....

Most of those games were already in previous poll rounds. This is round 12. So before you start getting all irate gamer on us, do yourself a favor and get all the facts straight first.

Yeah, this WAS before I got my facts straight, now that I went back and looked at the older polls,I realize I misspoke about all of them

.........all except Unreal........where is Unreal? Come on....THE UNREAL ENGINE!!!!! All of the best new games use it and it is defining the new generation of gaming!!! I know this website is called Retro Uprising, but these polls are getting closer and closer to present-day and the original Unreal came out in the late '90's and has been tranforming the world of video games ever since, much like Zelda, Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy, etc.. Just try to tell me otherwise........

To each their own........i can see Goldeneye and Resident Evil 2..............also, these polls seem to be 'what are the best gameS (plural) ever', because there are way too many games to just pick one.......each poll should only have like 3-5 games........lastly........whatever happened to the engine that ran Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.........oh yeah...........its obsolete............whatever happened to the engine that ran Unreal.........oh yeah..........its the most used game engine ever and is still used to this day!!!

Unreal was great, but your over estimating the amount of people that were influenced by it. In fact if you are impressed with the unreal engine, you should probably check out how doom was made.

Unreal isn't really retro enough for most of these guys to even notice it. It was released in 98 but it didn't get super popular for a few years really. It's more in the realm of current/next gen imo.

You're barking up the wrong tree if you think I'm gonna care about what great games went on to influence the industry. For the sake of polls like this all I care about is how good that particular game is. I stand by what I said. Goldeneye is better than Unreal. It's not better tech wise but it's better for it's overall impact. I think Perfect Dark was much better but it wasn't as big a hit as far as I'm aware.

Just look up UNREAL ENGINE and you will see hundreds of, not just games, but BLOCKBUSTER games that use it.........go ahead.........look it up.....

@Parsons- Don't misunderstand me I'm a big FPS fan and I've been playing them since the beginning. I'm not saying Unreal is bad or inferior. I've played lots of stuff using the engine, including actual Unreal games, but they don't seem to belong on this list. For the sake of a "best game" poll I couldn't even think of a retro game that uses the unreal engine that would deserve to be up there with huge retro classics.

Also this site attracts a lot of people who aren't that into modern FPS games. I'm not the only one who loves them but we are out numbered by a lot. So naturally a poll like this will reflect that. Don't worry you aren't getting under anyones skin, it's all just opinions right?

Btw have you ever tried Shadowrun for 360 / PC?

There's no other FPS like it. Sadly it has no single player offline experience so you probably won't be getting into it anytime soon.

If your basing it on the engine, Wolfenstein 3D invented FPS
games. I think that game deserve a place on this more than
Unreal. But I will admit, the engine did have a major impact.
