Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Awards Nominations
I nominate Barra's Ace of Aces score of 150 points for Most Impressive Score.
I nominate Barra's Jeopardy! Junior Edition for Most Impressive Game Clear.
I would also like to nominate Barra for Best Newcomer of 2013. A nomination that's been two years in the making.

Oh Right. I would go with the 3 foot ninja flash game score.
And whoever scores 300 in bowling for most impressive clear.
Although i am having second thoughts about the perfect bowling score. http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade....ay&gameid=2920
The irony.

Why not mine? I don't think either are worthy of the award, but I'm curious.

@Steven- Best Gamer goes to whoever wins the Best Gamer Contest. TIF won the honors this year so he's Best Gamer 2013.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Awards Nominations
Right, so I propose a new category, The SC13 official recognition award.
I watch the scores, all year round, and some players are not acknowledged fairly in this awards ceremony. So I elect LastExposFan as the first recipient, of the SC13 official recognition award.
---------- Post added at 08:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 AM ----------
Edit: This award will be annual, btw.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Awards Nominations
I am truly confused on how some of these nominations work or what people's grading criteria are.
If someone's body of work is games in the past in a specific decade but show only a few brush strokes, how are they being nominated vs someone else who has a resume building?
If Billy Mitchell joins the site and puts up a monster pacman score and thats it, i guarantee people start nominating him for best new comer.
Best newcomer should be the person who did the most damage. Not someone who puts up 2 big scores.
To me, best new comer is rookie of the year. You don't judge a pitcher by his 2 blow out wins you judge it by his WHIP, K's, ERA, Strikeouts, etc. His whole body of work.
If RU needs to add more categories then do so but don't justify it because of your own criteria.

To me, best new comer isn't about scores, it's about presence felt on the forums.

Each and every member has the right to vote for whoever they want. If we use a super precise criteria then there is no point in voting, since the winners of each category would be predetermined.

How so? In what way?
@dudebro - in what way am i over thinking it? Best Newcomer is a pretty specific title.
Some titles will never be accessible to the community.
Sometimes on RU i feel like logic doesn't exist in this realm. I am simply trying to understand how titles are created and to what they are truly being geared towards considering tenser gave a description of each title.
Logically speaking: Most impressive score is definitely open for interpretation and if someone nominates a score of 0. So be it. Multiple outcomes.
Best Gamer or Best Newcomer - those are pretty specific. Syscrusher nothing towards him but this perfectly fits my example. I see people nominating syscrusher who recently joined within for argument sake the last 60 days. I have never heard of this guy. I can only assume from what i've read in the new person thread that he is good at some coin-op games in the 80s. Is this the presence you're talking about Tails?
As i mentioned if Billy Mitchell joined these forums and put up a massive score in pacman a lot of you would be voting him. It makes no sense.
Furthermore i dont see any board presence from syscrusher yet there's his nomination.
I understand this is all in fun. I really do, but i am failing to understand how some of these choices are logical.
Steven was pretty set on nominating Lastexpo as best gamer of 2013. Remember, its all in fun yet there is a clear competition for best gamer.
Whether it's fun or serious or make believe it still needs to make some sense, no?
I want to nominate Barra as best newcomer and change my previous vote.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Awards Nominations
this is mostly like a people choice awards in that the people do the nominations and the voting for the people they think get the award. the way i picked my nominations were.
best gamer: obviously the one that did the best in the arcade this year which i believe is tif with almost 500 trophies how could i chose anyone else.
best newcomer: I chose tif, alex, and trb, i chose this 3 based on their play in the arcade, in the forums, and not being afraid to chat with others now and then.
best mod: i don't think i have to say why lol
best forum participant: i only picked seahawk and drunk but i should add dudebro and samejamesbond in this too without those 4 the forums would not have really any posts, seahawk with is game deals and interesting game topics, drunk with his forum games, dudebro and samejamesbond with their steam and new games posts.
trophy defender, best clear, and best score: To tell the truth i didn't really focus that much on the arcade this year so i just picked scores and clears i noticed, and people always told me that tif was good at getting a score back.
funniest user: tenser, drunk, and seahawk always make me laugh.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Awards Nominations
It's really simple. People are allowed to choose who they wanna nominate. When it comes to voting though all those weak nominations will get 0-1 votes and not matter much anyways. The truly deserving(or in some cases popular) will end up winning.
You seem to be getting annoyed by all this, that is the exact opposite of what we're going for. If you think the nomination process should be more strict or organized then by all means lay out your ideas and it'll be kept in mind for next year. RU is very user friendly and appreciates your input. I'm no longer a mod but I feel confident in saying that.

hmmmm....!
Ben Falls is a great gamer, and a hell of a nice guy.
for nominations,
best Moderator: i call for Josephjo for stepping in when it was necessary. sends decent personal messages, too.
best clearance: i only do MAME really, so all these games people mention mean nothing to me. although the Donpachi score is monstrous!
i vote for my own Kung-Fu Master game. 1st person ever to get extra man on 1st floor. Breaking new ground 30 years on.
Funniest user: i choose myself, as i always make myself laugh!!!
good luck all!!
