I'll most likely be purchasing one of these for Christmas. It will either be this or the PS4 and I'm leaning toward this since this is what most of my kids friends will have.

Growing up, my parents could never afford whatever the new technolgy was and I always had to go to my friends to play whatever was newest and greatest. I've held off on buying either the Xbox 360 or the PS3 in anticipation of the newest generation of consoles. My kids are 8,7 and 5 and I look forward to seeing the look on their faces when they see one of these under the tree. If you're an adult gamer I could see passing but I think they look like a great thing for a family and I'm guessing we won't be the only family that will be breaking in a new console for the new year.

First impressions are deadly important.
They billed this as their next games console, and then came about showing no games, instead focusing on features already done by your average cable box or TV streaming device....

Just the way they glazed over and specifics of the conference, instead focusing more on useless buzzwords to carry the presentation for an hour.

At best you could give them an "incomplete" grade, since they said beforehand that games would be at e3. But they had their big shot to impress, and had little to show for it.

i would say though that first impressions are important but just cuzz a way a console started or first showed does not mean its gonna be dead in the water .

sony showed games . microsoft showed certain things off about the console instead . does not mean sony gonna win the war just means they chose a diffrent approach . after all nintendo did the same thing they showed there system off instead of showing games at first and now they just starting to come out with the games with pikmin 3 ,smash bros new mario and other titles on the way alone this year . just means all three chose diffrent ways i mean after all you only got about 1 hour long to show how good your system is its why nintendo is just showing games at e3 and getting rid of there press confrence

I think Microsoft got it right. At the end of the day, both systems (PS4 and Xbox 1) are going to have similar games. I'm more interested in hearing about the other differences in the systems. Even though I'm buying it as a gaming console, games aren't going to determine which one I buy. It's the other stuff that makes the difference.

Of course it doesn't.

The PS3 flopped spectacularly at launch, and stewed in poor sales for years until managing to claw its way to something approaching successful.
The DS flopped its launch, and was dead for a year before it became the best selling dedicated games device of all time.
The 3DS flopped its launch as well, and is now crushing the Vita (which also flopped).

First impressions are just that, first impressions.
But they still are the starting point, setting the tone of success or failure, before the product even launches. Look at Wii U, which never had any positive press since its reveal and is now flopping hard worldwide.
Nintendo has one shot to improve the situation by the end of the year, otherwise that platform is just dead without ever hitting any sort of success.

First impressions matter.

I remember when PS3 & Xbox were rumored, they didn't want to call it Xbox 2 because it would sound older and inferior to a console called ps3 or something. So much for that.

The Xbox One sounds like an alright name to me. I don't understand the negativity around a name though I thought the 720 was catchier. Still better than the "Wii-U".

It was to be expected that this newest console generation would become much more social networking targeted. I think it's silly and expect a backlash within the next ten years. Something that markets itself as a game machine and that's it.

Anyways, only thing that matters is games and I'm not expecting there to be anything for me on a Microsoft system as they target western gaming.

i hope nintendo gets the ball rolling with there games . they need it or they will fall behide . i heard there supposed to show off smash bros and new mario game and stuff at the next nintendo direct its already been comfirmed by ign .

the new xbox and sony ps4 will give nintendo trouble but the fact remains since the wii nintendo been fighting its own battles i mean by that the wii and wii u are going into a diffrent direction like its trying so hard to create its own crowd

They are not behind already? by means the top selling Wii U game at the top of the UK charts has sold 1,000 copies yes just 1,000 copies for #1

that happened with the xbox 360 usully the first system that comes out the get had trouble at first thats why nintendo usully never comes out first . this time they chose too . most of the time they come out second or third .

they have trouble do to the fact people are deciding what ever to spend the money on a new system when there are well esblished one out already . same thing happend with the 360 when the ps2 was out dominating everything . it what sucks about coming out first you just got to make sure you got some good games to sell well .

i dont count nintendo out i never do its my fav . i just seem them coming out with super smash bros that will sell over million copys same with mario kart and a new mario 3D game as well as a zelda game . i mean those alone get the ball moving they just need better 3rd party support though its tough cuzz usully people just by Nintendo for the exclusives so 3rd party dont sell well . nintendo excluvies such as mario and pokemon and zelda and donkey kong few others are treasures they always very well all the time .

how do you know its just gesture box . just cuzz they did not bring out the biggest games you could imagin when they showed it off there saving it for E3 so anyone bashing it right now is pretty dum and early i think cuzz who knows what its gonna do . we have not see what new games they got .

So from what I gather they are basically trying to take over cable, and also the used game market. They are destroying traditional used game sales, (rumor is that each additional activation fee is full price of the game), and instead they are planning on implementing their own used game system... So I guess used games are only bad for the industry if MS are not the ones making the money.

Also, does anyone else shutter at the thought that the XBOX One listens to everything you say... whether it is on or not?

I cannot ever recall anything in gaming history receiving this amount of horrible feedback.

@ChrisP- Yeah really I think I'm finally done with consoles now. On PC I can get all the multimedia I want and I can get games many times cheaper than consoles. I can deal with losing some exclusives I never cared much about anyways.
