Seriously, that enemy that kept stealing my items was really annoying. And the Chocobo race: I had asbolutely no idea what I was doing. A lot harder using the Steam controls, it would seem

If I remember right the racing amounts to getting the best bird you can and managing your stamina during the race.

Re: Final Fantasy
Yeah, but I was button mashing and trying to figure out the controls but nothing seemed to happening no matter what buttons I was pressing lol. Either way, I beat on my second attempt which isn't too bad I assume.
My party right now is Cloud, Yuffie, and Red XIII by the way. They are all around Level 21/22.

Re: Final Fantasy
I had Cloud, Vincent, Cid as my main characters in my first playthrough when I was 11. Cloud, Tifa, Yuffie in my second playthorugh a few years ago. Tried to use everyone in an unfinished third playthrough last year.
In regards to the chocobo race, in the psone version, there's a way to glitch the race to infinite stamina while sprinting. Something to do with triggers.

Re: Final Fantasy
I just got past the first disc of the game so I imagine I'm a little more than halfway done with the game. Just going to place this here:

Re: Final Fantasy
oh yeah, just to wreck people's day:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEJ_3_wYROc]Game Theory: Final Fantasy VII, Who Killed Aerith? - YouTube[/ame]
Oh yeah, and that's not quite half way. Disc 2 is about 2/3 as long as disc 1, and disc 3, other than optional bonus missions is just the final dungeon and sephiroth.

Could killed her not just because he drowned her accidentally. He also didn't even try to heal her or use a pheonix down. He was amazingly careless and negligent.

I also thought it was weird that there was no blood. I feel like Square left it open ended in case they wanted to bring her back later in the series.
Aeris is in Kingdom Hearts by the way, which I find hilarious.

Yeah, could have been done better. I think they just expect you to accept it and leave it at that.

Re: Final Fantasy
I thought I remember reading that she comes back in the JP version of FF7. Any truth to that? It would make a lot more sense.

Re: Final Fantasy
@Cam- Yeah I remember that being used in FFV. I'm glad they actually tried it as it would be common sense in their world.

No truth to it. She has dialogue programmed in for the next couple of areas but that's it.
Iirc the director of the game had lost his mother before production began and had "come to terms with the lesson that some things are lost forever," or something along those lines.

It's all just rumors because code like that was found where she has a couple lines later in the game and her ghost appears a couple times after she died.
They may have toyed with the idea a little which is why some dialog got coded but she died and stayed dead.

Didn't she also have an end game weapon and a final limit break?

Re: Final Fantasy
I know she had a final limit break. You definitely can get it before she dies. I don't know if it becomes unavailable after she dies though.

Yes, but you can get both and use them both before she dies. Using her final limit would take a crap load of grinding though.

Re: Final Fantasy
Quite the cutscene just unfolded.
From what I recall, you only fight a few of the Weapons right? What happens if you beat all the optional ones?
---------- Post added at 11:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:27 PM ----------
And also this is more of a general question. What do you guys think of all the newer Final Fantasy games? Mainly the PSP and PS3 ones.

Re: Final Fantasy
I liked XII, from what I played of it. It was an interesting take on the series. Not as much a FF game, as it is just a fun game, again from what I've played.

Re: Final Fantasy
Playing 13 right now. It pretty much sucks and isn't really a FF game. Everything takes place in a hallway. You go where the game wants when it wants. No exploring until around 20 hours in and even then it's brief. There are no towns to explore, and you are at what level the game wants you most of the time. No more, no less.

Interesting. I actually never hear anything about XII.

13 is the one with Lightning, right? I thought I remember that 13 got pretty good reviews. I also heard good things about its direct sequels as well.
Have you guys seen anything about XV? It looks like it will be more like Kingdom Hearts which would be very different for the series.
Also, do you guys think its worth playing 8, 9, and 10? What did you guys think of those? Mainly 8 since that one is on Steam currently.

Re: Final Fantasy
uhh... I mean I gave VIII a shot, I didn't finish it, but it was enjoyable. Quite broken in ways. Didn't really like the magic equipping to stats and all that. It was good from what I played, nothing more, nothing less.
IX is really just okay until the end of disc 1, then it picks up from there a lot, and is really good. Didn't get to finish either though, but that's what I experienced, and what others I've talked to have said as well.

Yeah, 13 is the one with Lightning. I don't know how it is so popular. The plot, when there is one, is confusing and doesn't make sense and most of the time you run through hallways with no goal until you stumble onto something.
Almost nothing is explained to you, unless you decide to read the endless datalogs. That's right. They want you to go read all this crap instead of having a character just say it. Even then things are still not clear or completely explained.

Re: Final Fantasy
@Chris- Lots of people love ff8 so you might not regret buying it. I thought it sucked though. Annoying characters and a boring/grindy combat system.
9 is great and most FF fans agree it's one of the better modern FF games.
10 I never tried but I hear positive reviews about it a lot.
