How do they replace a controller in the middle of a marathon? There isn't a way to pause right?

He accumilates lives and has enough time to do stuff like go to the restroom. So my guess is that he used up his lives to do that.

But to hot swap out a controller? Just seems a bit extreme in the middle of a game.

It wouldn't be that hard, an arcade stick is only 4 switches that need to be wired up. Just open up the panel, disconnect the old one, slip in the new one, done, no calibration required.

The only question is how easy it would be to open up the panel, which will differ between cabinets..

Not to mention how legal is it? Do controls matter as far as that stuff goes?

There is no magic behind controller input - it's just an electric digital signal being detected. As far as the game cares there is no difference between digital input devices such as joysticks, joypads, buttons - it's all a 1 or a 0 on the game board.

Yeah, I was there. I woke up at 4:30 AM for no freaking reason and I see that I was just on time to witness the WR score being broken.

That was the part that confused me + the time to find spare controls. I guess they own an arcade so probably had lots of practice at it and lots of spares laying around.

I could be wrong but I don't think they replaced the control panel, they just were cleaning up the connections. At least that's what I witnessed the one time I saw them take the control panel off. These guys have a lot of practice doing these marathons and fixing arcade games so them pulling off a full switch wouldn't suprise me. The Kencade isn't a public arcade but Ken and friends are members of P.A.C. (Portland Area Collectors) which give them access to a ton of stuff. Them having an extra controll panel or two wouldn't be suprising either.

Hi guys, Enrico is in contact with Andrew Eklir,the American film-maker who is making "Man vs Snake", and Andrew wrote this about the question of Nibbler's bootleg versions:
"To our knowledge there were never any bootleg versions of the game. Nibbler wasn't a popular enough title to have warranted being copied. In addition, Nibbler was made by reverse engineering boards from a game called Fantasy so it would not have been an easy game to copy."
