Teacher punches student in the face, no charges

Real sad that this happens at all. Frankly, I saw too much of it during my time in school. These teens must have felt this teacher was a fair target being 67 years old. That goes to show how far people will go to be bullies.

That started way back in the 80's and it's been getting worse ever since.
Kids I see at work in places like shopping malls and grocery stores are exactly as you describe; standing around in groups just talking or else they're on the cell phone texting.

I maintain the problem lay in the lack of decent foreseeable rewards for good behavior, and that's the point I was trying to make:

What have these kids got to look forward to, and who have they to look up to nowadays?
It seems like almost everybody who was a positive role model in past decades has either been outsourced or else have been replaced by corrupt individuals..

I once had an idea to boost relations between the general public and the Police here in Vancouver where I would go and get career stats of local Officers and make them either into a calendar or perhaps even something like 'Baseball cards', and promote them to kids through the local schools.

'Real Heroes' or something would have been the title, and I've dropped that project a long time ago {since I've suffered life - changing health problems} but that doesn't mean it still wouldn't work; it may even shame the 'bad' cops into changing their behavior.

I thought the possible reasons I provided were pretty down - to - Earth myself.
Also, there's the 'D' - word again, what do you think is a reasonable replacement to the belt/strap/ruler/kick/slap we got when we were kids - what do you think would work?

Perhaps rewards for good behavior in place of punishment for bad?

In this particular example I think teachers should be backed up by stiff punishments, like if you threaten them you face expulsion. Students in the lower grades should be forced to show some respect if they're not mature enough to do it on their own.

There are plenty of positive role models out there, most kids are not interested if it doesn't benefit them now. They see in reality shows instant fame, they see athletes/musicians and multi-million dollar contracts. They believe they are "entitled", which is a joke. It's pretty disgusting, plus has me really worry about the future.

This is true. I have heard a kid tell a teacher once that he does not need school he will go on a reality show win and be a milionare for the rest of his life thats his plan for the future. I wanted to run in there and call him a idoit but I just kept my peace and walked past shakeing my head.

You're right, and I agree that there are still a lot of positive role models, they just don't 'sell' as well as controversial or larger - than - life figures such as those you mentioned - also, the general attitude seems to favor 'instant gratification', and the 'slow burn' approach to things seems to be gone, leading to impatience and self - centeredness.
I was just being my usual self and making another social comment of sorts.

I am also extremely worried about the future my friend, for the above mentioned reasons as well as many more.

Wow, things have changed .. when I was a kid they would say that they were going to win the lottery {and live happily ever after}, but I guess that's progress for you.
